Opinions on Bartle Gamer Psychology Test

So I've read a lot of comments referencing Bartle score, particularly in relation to the hot topic of the moment, World PvP. I was just wondering, in general, how much weight people give their scores. Do you feel that this is a valid test to measure your tendencies as a player.

I just recently took the test myself, scoring 67% Achiever, 47% Killer, 47% Socializer, 40% Explorer. The scores are fairly even, and more or less align with my own self-perception. Feel free to share your own scores and thoughts on them  :3

  • Imo the test pushes players in those directions by limiting options and making very specific situations the point of the questions. Sure, not all possible scenarios and player responses can be pre-scripted, but when I took the test it was obvious that some questions had answers where the only logical conclusion was combat.

There will be some that take the test and agree, there will be some that don't. Overall, the test is too simple for what it is trying to determine. Does it guess accurately? Sure. Is it always accurate? No, I don't think so.

Yeah, I had heard other players say something similar and was wondering if this was a prevailing opinion. In retrospect, I should have made this a poll, but I'm still pretty new here. I'm not used to using all the different features.  xp

    I am:
    80% Explorer
    47% Achiever
    40% Socialiser
    33% Killer

Close enough to how I feel, though a bit much on the "Explorer" one.

PS: I think this test is useless and doesn't show anything because everything is dependent on the game itself (e.g. I could be a 100% killer if I loved the game and how they made the mechanics)

Bartle score is fairly spot on for me in RPGs:
    87% Explorer
    73% Socializer
    47% Achiever
    0% Killer

0% Killer isn't accurate in MMORPGs since killing is so integral to leveling, but...
I'm an ESAK in that order, regardless of actual percentages.

I think the test is a bit obsolete since we now also have crafting and building...which isn't covered by the test.

I mean the test is quite basic in what it asks but as a rough guideline to your play style, I would say it ok.

    Achiever: 20%
    Explorer: 87%
    Griefer: 40%
    Socializer: 53%
  • Its just okay. I mean, a lot of the questions are real black and white with no grey area. I’m usually somewhere in the grey.
    I got AKES
    A: 87%
    K: 60%
    E: 47%
    S: 7%
Which I know the percentages are off—but the order seems halfway correct. I tend to do a lot of PvP, and gain rank that way.
  • When I took the test a few years back I found some of the questions were loaded and felt it did not quite fit me.  But it's fun to get our egos stroked ever so often. :p
  • Pretty accurate I'd say. 80% explorer fits quite well for me, since I greatly enjoy wandering around the map, 53% killer in addition to that fits as well, because I tend to kill everything in sight during the exploration process.
  • This is an interesting test I did not know existed ...
    I found out that I was a

    73% Achiever

    53% Socialiser

    40% Explorer

    33% Killer

I wonder if most tests end up with you being an achiever.. although I def's agree with the socializing within a mmo.
  • interesting i got

    You are 80% Explorer

    What Bartle says:

♠ Explorers delight in having the game expose its internal machinations to them. They try progressively esoteric actions in wild, out-of-the-way places, looking for interesting features (ie. bugs) and figuring out how things work. Scoring points may be necessary to enter some next phase of exploration, but it's tedious, and anyone with half a brain can do it. Killing is quicker, and might be a constructive exercise in its own right, but it causes too much hassle in the long run if the deceased return to seek retribution. Socialising can be informative as a source of new ideas to try out, but most of what people say is irrelevant or old hat. The real fun comes only from discovery, and making the most complete set of maps in existence.

  • Seems about right.

    53% Socialiser

    53% Achiever

    13% Killer

I love seeing new things and doing new things.  I'm quite a bit of an Achiever, but only in the sense that advancement gives me new things I can do and new places I can go.  I love being in a guild with people who are friendly and I can get to know.  My best times ever in an MMO were with an old guild that I stayed with from game-to-game for years.  And I don't care much for PvP; I mainly stay away from it.  The only time I've really liked PvP was when it was tied to some PvE element, such as when you are competing against human players to accomplish a goal against NPCs and directly oppose each other.

I think this has me pegged pretty well even though the questions did seem pretty simplistic.  Often times I picked the least-worst of two answers even though I'd probably not really do either in that situation.

He makes up for his lack of socialization with murder. Nothing wrong with that  :3
  •  I think for both :p

Yeah I am a misanthrop and need to kill everyone o:)

No no... My greatest love is pvp and conflicts between guilds. This keeps for me a world like Verra alive. But you will see me also in some traverns to drink some cool blonde beer <3

  • I must have a personality problem because every time I take it I feel different about the questions, and then I answer differently resulting in a different result. But most of the time I'm either an Achiever or an explorer, Achiever being the most frequent.

I also don't like how they add up to more than 100% xD

    This is my Latest Result:

    You are 73% Achiever

    67% Explorer

    47% Socialiser

    13% Killer

I'm not a killer. I've killed everything that walks, swims, or crawls, and I'm kind of tired of it. I'm just here for the crafting, economy, politics of it; and the fish.

  • I want to go fishing again, thanks sunfrog
  • I personally think its a crock and could care less about scores or tests or surveys about this stuff. To each their own though.
