Skill FX skins ideas

Hey everyone, i felt like this would be a fun convo to have while feeding some ideas to the devs....hopefully lol. Since we know there will be skill cosmetics (assumed from kickstarter rewards) that will change the visuals of a skill, what do we all hope to see in the future?

I personally wanna see cosmic star themed skill fx for the mage class. For example you use the fire ball spell and instead it looks like an aetherial shooting star comming your way.

  • I never get a break from yu guys..feels sad  :(
  • What? You don't like my proposed Stufferton's skill FX?
  • Personally I'd like to keep it in the realm of that class. For example mage's abilities should remain elemental. Different color flames for fire but should remain fire because it deals burn damage. Summoner summons would be a really good one to play with. Bard, if their abilities use instruments, could open a lot of variety.

I do like the idea just I don't want to see a rogue stealthing as a cheesecake or a ranger shooting pool noodles or a tank laying down a giant stop sign to defend with.
  • I want something  like this

    That is all

I completely agree even i dont want to see xtra crazy bling unless its in the realm of possibilities. But i do wanna see a little more than just didfferent color elemental skins for a mage.

I love the idea that it adds more flair to the roleplaying aspect. SaintJoanna said:

I would totally make a cleric if i could be a hydromancer but its never a option except in gw2 if you were playing an elementalist.

Yeah hydromancer was fun but if you've ever played wow, you would know about the resto shaman that has a flowing water effects for their chain heal. There are a lot of cool ideas out there.

Maybe a lava mage instead of fire. Lobbing lava balls instead of fireballs, lava font under enemies instead of a meteor coming from the sky. Ash cloud instead of a smokescreen, etc. Ice/water/sleet effects. Hell just thinking of The Last Airbender I can think of metal instead of rock, lightning/plasma instead of fire, and blood instead of water/ice.

If we know more about how summoning works we'd be able to figure out what things would be appropriate. Maybe a sum-mag could have effects that change the elemental type like rock, water, ice, fire, air, lightning, etc. A sum-cle could have skeletons, demons, angels, zombies/ghouls, etc.

There is a lot of potential and the assets could be used in the game for enemy mobs so it is not like it would be wasted resources. We just need to know more about the class identity, abilities, and what aspects can be safely changed without breaking immersion.
  • Hopefully they read all the chatter and get some ideas from the forums.

    (Off subject)
Maybe they'll add more skill trees for water or druid skills you have to learn via a school or something. They said theres gonna be alot of skill augments so its not out of the realm if possibility.

Perhaps the Druid class some where hoping for will be fulfilled by a religion.  That would be interesting.  And since there will be what? 10 religions, that's a lot of wiggle room to make up for some specialties.
  • I would like to imagine there will be something along the lines of hyrdomancer. I mean I'd assume they had to come up with generic class titles before they fully develop how the class will play. I mean a cleric/mage (oracle) sounds like a perfect hyrdomancer. However, they probably haven't really thought out exactly how this class will play so they came up with the super-generic name oracle.
  • Yes this way there will be something for everyone! The reason why mmo's get so boring later on is because of restrictions what devolpers bring for there players.
Just create the unthinkable and out of the box idea.

Allowing us to sub as any class and able to change it is an excellent system. Allows for a lot of control over how you envision your archetype as a class.
  • Hey just wanted to see if anyone had some idea they would love to add?

I was just thinking of how awsome it would be to have shadow aura skins for your skills no matter what class. I mean i hate the usual fire, lightning, and ice so to have multiple colors and effects would be a god send.

    Just my 2 penny thoughts.

This kind of light/holy lightning is my greatest desire, for all my spells....

Shadows with eyes and mouths are great too :3
  • Ohh i have another idea, been inspired by dark souls 3. How about diamond and crystal themed spell effects.

Who wouldn't want to be a daimond (or crystal) themed witch who actually casts crystal like spells.

(Ohhh would love to see weapon skins like this toooo lol)

I love how the team plans to have a lush variety of choices for us. Plus it makes me soo excited to theory craft with everyone. Love you guys 😀😍
  • I want a druid aesthetic the most. I plan on maining Cleric, Summoner, or Bard depending on the how the classes are implemented but either way i'll make a healer alt if i don't main it and I want to create that look. I'm thinking Py'rai Cleric/Ranger + religion may get me the closest depending on what IS does.
