Professions and theory crafting ;)

I know we are a ways off from the crafting aspect of the Alphas / Betas but I was curious to know what professions everyone was interested in - I personally am looking forward to something like Inscription (book/scroll making).  I personally thing that would be the most interesting thing to add to a world where lore is created by the players.  Let me know what all you all would like to see as a profession and why you think it would be cool to have.

  • I'm probably going to to take all gathering skills because I spend most if my time wander aroumd maps anyway.

If I understand the system, you get 3 points for crafts. Gathering skills cost 1, Processing 2 and crafting 3. So Crafters will need people like me to gather mats, hopefully making be somewhat wealthy ;)
  • yea, i'm torn between a few options atm. Gathering looks like good options as i like to run around and explore. Processing looks like a good way to contribute because it seems like a less popular profession but extremely necessary to other crafters. I could see processors being in high demand. On top of that, I like two handed swords and the idea of working towards and crafting my perfect sword sounds appealing to me.

I probably should do processing but we will see how things turn out.
  • Nice!  I don't know what Inscription would fall under as your are creating documents *shrugs*

  • I'd imagine it would be crafting. A gatherer would probably collect plant matter and a processor would make the paper or whatever you inscribe on.
  • I would love to become a spell maker. Finding out new ways to combine spells or making new spells all together and sell them to people but I would keep the best ones for myself, of course, ^^
  • Haha, I think they discussed something like that already about crafting - you have the ability to retain sole-creator-ship of a formula or blueprint for a certain time frame before it become public knowledge I think.  That or I have made that up just now.  I think I read about it though.

Many recipes will be found in the open world ^^ Intrepid want players out and about discovering and having fun~

They have discussed in one of their livestreams that they may implement a system in which if a player discovers a recipe, the player gets exclusive access to that recipe for short given time. That player can choose to share the recipe if they wish~ After the exclusive access period is over it becomes public ^^

It's an idea still in discussion but seems pretty cool to me ^^

    Anyway~

I'll be gatherer and I'll specialise in something. I'll decide once I find the most shiniest or colourful material :3
  • I hope the exclusively extends to dyes too. GW2 has a very extensive dye system and, atleast at first, some colors were very exclusive and therefore hughlh sought after.
  • Depends on how many people I play with and what is needed. I'm happy to gather and process for the good of the group, but ideally I'd either craft leather goods or be a wood worker.
  • Also, if I am a processing person I want to have to inspect my product for defects. Knots in lumber, faults in metal bars, impurities in gems etc

Have a link for this? I was under the impression that these were all separate trees and the more points you invest the more expensive it gets. That way you have to choose the paths you take.

I may be working off old information, but this video by Proxy talks about it at around 1:20.

But now I can't find any other sources to show this.
  • Yea, there was initially some confusion on that. He made a mistake in that video and corrected it in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h73ABkAnOY

    Stacks to the rescue
  • full out gather.. Mining and whatever else there is.
  • I just want to be able to fully immerse a character into the crafting system without needing to rely on combat to advance or have an effect on the world.  I'm very interested in how architecture and home decor crafting is going to turn out, as you can see the incredible detail the artists have been putting into buildings and other structures (such as the bridge in today's live stream!).  I can just imagine the different statues and fountains and plants and other design feature that could make a player city feel unique and stand out!

How cool would it be if you were an architect for a node that overtook another node in a massive battle or long-standing war, and if victorious, you unlocked the placement of a customizable banner or statue in your city to signify the victory.  A statue that may one day itself become a ruin after a siege, but would still live on in Verra lore!

that sounds awesome - I hope something like that is implemented!!
  • Well I normally do mining, have to see how they will set it up here, cause I try to mate it with one crafting profession. Like Armor or weapons, but if I can't I will find away to make it work.
