I've found myself in an unknown place

Eyo ^_^

When I finally found out about Ashes of Creation, I could feel the tears coming down my face.  Finally, there was an MMO being made people who were focused on making a good game, not a profitable one, being developed by veterans of the industry being lead by an MMO veteran.  Naturally, I registered on the site and joined the discord, but I decided to read up on absolutely EVERYTHING I could possibly find about the game before heading to the forums(Special thanks to Maltroth for putting up a reddit post with a lot of helpful links).  Now that I've finally gone through everything Intrepid has posted and Nivhawk's compilation on everything we know so far about the game(Shoutout to Frederik, Chkoupinator, and Blurpe for helping out with that doc), I figured I'd go about introducing myself to the forums!

Games are my passion, and I've played MMOs for quite some time.  Through my years, I've played Runescape, GuildWars 2, Tera, Black Desert Online, Wildstar, and Albion Online.  Each of those games had various strengths and weaknesses, but I ultimately drifted away from all of them in time, instead opting to play a bunch of single-player games on Steam, with most of my time going to Final Fantasy(If any Final Fantasy Nerds are out there, I've played and completed every single player game from 4-15 excluding 12, which I'm currently playing through).  I've always loved the social aspect of MMOs, but I could never find myself getting attached to any one game, but I believed that somewhere in the deep bowels of the internet existed the MMORPG that I've always wanted.  So I kept looking.  And looking.  And looking.  But to no avail.

Initially, I thought that maybe I had fooled myself into believing I loved interacting with online communities; maybe I should stick to my shell of single player games.  However, I eventually found myself a community that proved to me that I truly loved interacting with people online: DNBHL.  DNBHL is an ongoing puzzle ARG that's incredibly difficult and still unsolved, but I found myself stepping up to moderate the main Discord, and that's when I truly began immersing myself in their community.  Even in an online puzzle game with no real new leads, year after year, the community kept coming back and proving to me that I truly enjoy interacting with online communities.  However, DNBHL takes up a very small amount of my time.  So, I kept searching for an MMO that I would truly enjoy playing, but I never found anything that felt appealing to me.

Now, I should probably talk about what I've wanted in an MMO.  I generally play the support classes in games; I can't help it, helping others is something I enjoy on a day to day basis, and support classes generally resonate well with me.  However, helping people isn't generally limited to the battlefield, and I've always wanted to not only be healing people as they fight, but gathering materials and crafting the items that everyone would so desperately need to survive.  For all of this to be done well was an already tall order, but on top of everything else I wanted, I wanted to play in a world that really mattered.  I wanted there to be lore, and I wanted to have an impact on massive GvG fights that would be paved into the history of the game.  However, out of every MMO I've ever found, not a single one has been a game that has stuck with me.  What separates Ashes of Creation from the rest of the MMOs for me is that it is being developed with the community, for the community.  While the game has not announced many of its systems, I have full confidence that between its industry veterans, alpha testers, beta testers, and hyped community it will be able to create the perfect MMORPG.  Having looked for a good MMO for so long, you can probably now understand how discovering Ashes of Creation brought tears to my eyes.

For those of you who read the whole post, thanks for reading my wall of text to the end, it means a lot <3

  • Welcome @PathosLaxr I really like the passion you have for gaming, and I share your hopes and dreams that this one is not all about P2W.  AoC will not disappoint and its developers are long standing gamers like us who want to bring back the culture and community pride back into MMOs.  I sincerely think you should join OTG, "Old Timers Guild" (I am not the guild leader, just a member.  It's for players age 25 and above, and has many gamers (like me) that go all the way back to Runescape.  Please join us! https://www.oldtimersguild.com/
