Rotate store items

Not long ago, there were a number of 'Protector' themed items in the store (Sanctuary, Armour, etc), which I really would have liked to purchase had I the funds at the time. By the time I did, they had been replaced. It got me thinking, wouldn't it be beneficial to have themes rotated? That way, those who've missed out get another chance, whilst still making new themes available. Would be interested to see what others think of this.

  • I think they said they were one time only in one of the streams, but I am not sure.

I started with the base package this month. I will probably upgrade to the mount package once I see one that looks cool. Maybe they will have a really good Halloween themed one for October?
  • Perhaps if there is sufficient demand, there would be an incentive to bring back themes. The 'Paladin'/ Medieval human style of Protector was something that particularly appealed to me, and would certainly jump at the chance to buy it again.
  • saddly once they are gone they are gone. I know a lot of people who wanted the necro pack but the likelihood of it coming back is slim to none

As @Zonned already wrote: It was stated on several occasions that store items would be one time offers and one time offers only. Consider it a privilege for those who contribute to Ashes in the beginning. Any appreciation for such an early contribution and appropriate uniqueness of the items would be obsolete when bringing them back at a later point.

You may find many people who missed out on items they liked and thus will share your opinion, but you will find just as many who did not miss out on them and who like their items to be special. In the end IS said they wouldn't come back and I don't think they will break that promise.
  • I prefer the skins being one time only, the exclusivity makes them more appealing imo. If they start showing up again and become common then they would stop appealing to me in particular. Scarcity makes them better.
  • If they are to be one time only, is it conceivable that they can be sold or traded?
If there's a way to get my hands on them, I certainly would try :)
  • Nope, there is no selling or trading of cosmetic items planned, just like there is no gifting. There will be no way for people to profit from once on offer cosmetics and such, removing the incentive for bad players to enter the market. People have supported the company and bought their offerings because they were "get em now, or never get them again!" If for example people had known that they could wait until just before launch to buy "exclusive" cosmetics or for example a lifetime sub, they would never have dropped money on the game in its early stages when it was just a slick UE4 placeholder produced vid. Those that backed early and backed hard get the best shinies. Those that came late to the party or decided "It might be a scam, I will wait until the last possible moment to give them money once I see this or that!" will just have to cry into their beer.

Haha well for me I wasn't aware of the games existence until like a week ago when a video on youtube popped up in my recommended feed. Hopefully there is enough time left for me to at least get a handful lol
  • If they were to bring them back they would make them more expensive and just say it was a one time only at the original price.

I'd still get them. And support the game at the same time.
  • I can feel your pain @Yakoyakdiddy .
The only items I've personally have been interested in are the recent dwarven ones, I got them.  But if I had found out later that they were released and I missed them, I'd be pretty disappointed.
But that's the way it is with limited exclusives.

At least when they are available, there isn't a limited number of them (500 or 1000 or what-have-you.)    I've been hit many times with that in real life with real life items.  Things getting sold out within minutes, etc.   It sucks because you feel like you didn't get a chance at all.
All you can do is keep an eye on what comes out, and perhaps you'll see something you'll like even better!
  • I appreciate the discussion. Would any of you *want* to see some of these items return, such as the suggested rotation system?

I think the only way I'd want that, to be honest with you, is if there was still something exclusive about each run, such as color palate.

For example, the Elven Track Suit of Fitness might be in burgundy, navy, and white colors the first go around.  But when it next appeared, it was in a  yellow, green, and black color scheme.

    Something like that.
  • Can't really bring anything back that you've said is exclusive.

"Oh this is exclusive and you'll never see it again"

    A few months later

"Due to demand we have brought this back..."

.... Can I get a refund?   What I bought was an exclusive never to be seen again cosmetic.  If you sell it, then what you took my money for isn't want you sold me.  Plus, then you'd jeopardize your integrity since you said one thing and did another.

That level of caution is why I opted to not pre-order BDO and Bless Online. I decided to let them launch and observe for a bit before buying in.

Ultimately, I gave both games a pass. And I'm glad I did so.

The end result is that I have more money to buy more beer.

That said, AoC and the way IS is handling the development of the game is far more promising than BDO or Bless Online ever were. Of course, info was more scarce last year, and AoC much more of an unknown.

I appreciate the discussion. Would any of you *want* to see some of these items return, such as the suggested rotation system?
Absolutely not. These items were sold as 'exclusive' and 'never to be seen again'. IS going back on their word on this matter would be a betrayal of the early supporters who bought those exclusive packages, and a stain on the credibility and reputation of IS.
  • If you didn't buy the Swan Boat, you're out of luck.  I don't think bringing back these exclusive items would be good for the company, and it would put a bad taste in the mouths of previous buyers.  It's just one of those things "you had to be there".  <wonders how many swan boats we'll see in game>
  • the less people with the necro outfit the better ^^

Now that you mention it, I do recall a similar bad taste in some peoples mouths after they opened up the store game packages that mirrored the kickstarter packages.  But at least they differentiated them in item appearances.

Yep, there was a huge backlash on that one, and probably enough gnashing of teeth, that Intrepid won't repeat that "mistake" again.

    We can only hope
  • I watched Steven say in an interview on stage sitting next to Bacon that these cash shop cosmetics would not be offered again. I believe due to some of the older games that influence the creative process here, we won't see them offered again.
  • Sorry, but no.... I bought overpriced items thinking they would be rather exclusive being that they could only be bought for a limited amount of time....

My heart break for you, just not enough.

    <3
I agree with you 100% if I did see these items later down the road for people to but I would be quite niffed
  • Perhaps if there is sufficient demand, there would be an incentive to bring back themes.
    I hope not.

If Steven has said they are one time only, I would hope Intrepid have the integrity to not bend to the desires of a few players.

Intrepid need to maintain their integrity.

Claiming something is an exclusive, limited offer and then offering it up again after the fact is a really fast way to destroy your integrity.

There are somethings I would have liked to get that were stated as exclusive to some kickstarter packs, but I would rather Intrepid maintain their integrity than be given a chance to buy those items.

    Nope.

There are a bunch of items I would have liked to have bought but couldn't because I was too late. Even though I would desperately love to own that elven caravan, I even more desperately do not want Intrepid to go back on their word in regards to one-time items listed for sale on website. If they did go back on their word then WAY more would be lost then just some virtual items.

There will be plenty more opportunity to buy other unique items in the future before the game is released.
  • These are the moments when I feel happy being here since the kickstarter and secretly laugh at all those poor souls who cant buy the items they missed (I know how it feels....)

Yeah when you can blast armies with magic and annihilate them then you kind of tend to do some things that are *Ahem*... morally wrong.

I think it would be nice if they rotated store items, but they have stated multiple times they would not so there would be a bunch of unhappy people if they went back on their word. Still, it would be nice for those who registered a little late.

    BTW,

Anyone know if they ever had items for Kaelar / Vaelune knights yet?

    EDIT: Found a link: https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/categories/announcements

BTW Anyone know if there were store items for Feb., Jan., or Dec.? Earliest I saw was March browsing that link.
