The only one that finds combat somewhat hohum, from a hype perspective. There seems to be a large number of people raving about how good it looks, the way things flow so many minds blown it would seem. But honestly for me its like ok here is the action combat portion of the combat system ok fair enough, but its not the AOC combat system we will have come launch its just a portion.
Now don't get me wrong the combat system is a very important part of any game, and it has to be fun, engaging, tactical, and require a good level of skill to become proficient at. But this is an MMORPG and while a good combat system will carry a game for a while it is the other systems that will carry you through a game for years. The crafting, housing, trade, guild, story, questing, lore, raiding, plus many other systems that all come together to form these games we call MMORPG's.
What I guess I am trying to ask is are there any others out there who just arnt hyped for combat as much as for the other systems that are for the most part yet to be revealed. Well revealed in any great depth.

I see this as step 1 and with all the community feedback we'll see from A1 will help sculpt AoC into a product our community desires.
What I see with the A1 preview is that the team are working hard with their development, have made significant progress from A0 but have still a long way to go ^^ That is the way it should be at the stage in development ^^
What I'm excited for is to see the progress and development from this stage onward. Since there is no NDA i feel it's going to open the community up more and the time is gonna go by quick
*cough* I'm patiently waiting for gathering mechanics!
Well said! I didn't come to Ashes of Creation for combat but for everything else the world has to offer. The sense of community always wins me over in the end
@Diura
So far Ashes seems to have a great community We can only hope it carries over into game!
It better be enjoyable because I expect to do a lot of it, but it’s not the end-all, be-all of the game for me.
I hope the current combat gets polished. Character movement seems a little jagged in and out of combat. Is my toon going to be doing involuntary somersaults every time he fights a mob? How about back flips? Suppose I am a sniper hiding on a ledge and picking people off. Is my toon going to somersault off a cliff and drop dead from the fall between bow shots? How about a triple axel while spraying hot lead into everybody around me? After all he will be blinded by all the bright lights and off-balance from all the earth shaking.
If the combat gets polished it will be really nice. However, I am just as interested in crafting, harvesting, trade, exploring, questing, building, and lore as I am in combat. Hopefully some aspects of the game will require intelligence to solve puzzles instead of just shooting up a place.
The players seem to flow like leaves in a river of combat.
I hope that this isnt the finished stage.
I hope for less movement while fighting, and a bigger sense of impact when hitting your target.
Those legs dance around too much just like CS 1.6
I agree with this wholeheartedly! For me, combat is a means to an end. A way to farm my mats, finish my quest, or protect my caravan/node. My girlfriend and I tend to play games for years at a time, so we really like having lots of stuff to do.
I really hope trying to balance all the multiple different combat options (pvp, pve, tab target, action) doesn't overwhelm IS. Most games have trouble just trying to balance classes/gear for pvp vs pve. This will be much harder due to the extra options.
I also worry that all the focus on combat could take away from some of the other awesome systems that have been talked about. Crafting sounds SOOO good so far, and I'm really wanting to try it! But crafting seems to be the first thing cut when development budgets/timelines run out, so I'm trying not to get too excited yet.
My girlfriend will be looking at housing, farming (husbandry?), cosmetics, fishing - all the 'quality of life' stuff. She really likes 'playable instruments' like LoTRo and Shroud of the Avatar have, but I don't think they've been included in AoC ?
I am personally passing on testing however as i don't enjoy it in it's current iteration.
My oceanic ping makes abilities an skills non intuitive with severe input lag. 1sec delay dodge roll etc.
the TTK is to low for me.
Not a fan of the fixed over shoulder locked perspective. aware of camera customisation in future.
Not sure how i feel about head shot hitboxes from a long term MMO perspective in regards to both PVP and PVE content (mob AI), general balance.
Noticing a heavy reliance on cleave/slash/AOE already...can have a negative spammy shallow feeling.
Great for casual battle royal, long way to got for long term MMORPG longevity.
Basically agree with the OP. I'll will wait and see what the hybrid system actually is before any I have remote chance of 'hype'
