How do I make money in the game?

I was reading some stuff on the aocwiki and we won't have a freehold until node 3, then we apply for one. Then we buy an animal husbandry certificate. So all that stuff takes money. Assuming there won't be an auction house yet, because there aren't any towns, how do we make money? Can't sell stuff on our freeholds because we don't have one yet.

Do I just go up to random people and ask them if they want wood? Does combat make money? Most people will rush to go fight so even if I kill them they won't have money because they didn't make any. What is a good tactic to start making money in the game as soon as possible? Should I grind monsters as soon as I start playing? I want to get a freehold/stable.AH certificate as soon as possible.

  • Like a little kiosk? I think I saw that somewhere. Is that how we start out?
  • It is too early to tell, but I assume the way to make money on day1 will be selling stuff to NPCs, loot mobs and you probably will be able to set up a shop in a town.

That might get many different responses in an MMO.  Also, might be a great way to make money too... #woodslinger
  • I haven't heard any details on that yet, but it'll be interesting to find out. We know that there will be a way, we just don't know exactly what it'll be like just yet.

There will need to be some form of currency generation, through probably NPCs? But it is hard to say for sure yet.
  • Harvest wheat, kill with wheat, deadly wheat for sale and it's name shall be known across the lands of Verra.

    This?

It says you cannot only sell stuff, but offer services too. That would be another way of making money.

  • It is always good to go up to random people and ask them if they would "like wood".

I'm going to try to guess where the banks will spawn when we reach the metro level. Hopefully if I guess right, the vault will spawn around me

<3 I hope you can customize it, and just drop it where ever you want, and put up a sign.

I would love to be able to do that from the get-go.

I think you can only put it in the marketplace of a node, which at the same time the position of that marketplace within the node is decided by the gouvernement of that node. So I don´t think you can drop it wherever you want unfortunately :(
  • @Vohrak I believe you are correct
  • One way to make money is to chop trees in the morning, then open a stall and advertise "selling cheap morning wood".

You'd be surprised how many people have a lack of morning wood.
  • The problem with selling morning wood too early in the morning is the mountain dew really softens it too much to make proper use of it.

Yes that! But you need a town. How do I make money before the town exists?
I think it will be hard to start a node at first because everyone will want to attack it. The castle siege previews look super fun. Towns might not even be a thing. We might not get to build them because everyone will love attacking them.
  • My guess would be that monsters or humanoids will drop a certain amount of cash, and so do quests/tasks. With those money and/or items, you can get money by selling to an NPC merchant. And with that money, you'll be able to invest into other stuff or into more money generation. All in all, you go from baby steps in making money, to giant werebear leaps.

If you manage to defend a town, there is a 30 days cooldown before that town can be sieged again. That should give enough time to upgrade the node I guess.

Like any economy, the first thing you need is a universal IOU system....aka currency.
Next you need to provide that currency and inject it into the economy.
Then you need to keep it circulating rather than sitting in a bank or under the rug.

The Bank of PvE will no doubt provide payment for work initially.

I also think I recall being able to set up NPC player venders.

I wonder how these spaces will be allocated?  There's only so much room at the prime spots (road intersections) for NPC's to stand around and / or set up stalls.

Would be funny to see NPC's argue with each other over space and maybe even engage is fisticuffs from time to time, lol.  (Just not very often so that it becomes common place and irritating.....)

True that, I remember hearing about this as well a while ago.

Instead of having to afk for your stall to be open, you could put up an NPC the same way to stand in place for you.

Here is an example of one of my favourite but unfortunately dead MMOs:

or to make your stall stand out, you can buy decorations:

  • [Perhaps, Bounty Boards.]
Kill Bounty: Kill 100 Coyotes in the ****** area

    Rewards <565 xp ;Recipe ;25g>

Sell Recipe for 8 gold to a npc merchant
Sell Coyote Fur <Common drop> 100 for 10g and Coyote Tooth <craft material for jewelry Rare Drop> 10 for 10g

lol i dont know that is a good question and this is my early game thought. lets not forget we could also maybe sell raw materials to npc stores too. or even
    [Collection Bounty.]
Gather 100 units of Wood <Repeated 10 times Daily, reward per 1 turn in 10 gold > so go out and chop down 1000 worth of materials for a 100 gold profit daily
    Gather 100 units of Stone <Repeated 10 times Daily>
    Gather 100 units of Iron  <Repeated 10 times Daily>
for stone and iron go mine and same concept for a ultimate final goal of 300g per day or even 10 gold iof you decide to do it once, or 160, idk.
  • Kill shit, sell shit, make shit, trade shit, even take other people's shit.  Shit.

sounds like a game or ARK
  • I've been thinking about this. The solution is to sell wood. Except you need an axe to cut wood. How do you get an axe? It's made of metal and wood. How do you get the metal? You need a pick axe. How do you get the metal for the pick? You dig it up with a wooden spoon looking shovel.  How do you make a wooden spoon without metal tools? How did tools begin? Wtf??

Will we have to start this game with stone age tools? You use fire and rocks to make a shovel spoon to get some rocks to melt into a pick and shovel? What the heck?

I think we need to bring shovels, axes, and picks with us from Sanctus.

A puppy and kitten kiosk that's adorable.
To get the first tools, they could give them out as quest rewards for doing a 'harvesting/resource tutorial'. Just something to get started while you craft better tools for your chosen path.
  • Cute small pets including kittens and puppies were a KS backer reward, so they will definitely be in game, so kiosk away.
  • maybe you can merge in some game design from survival games like 7 days to die where the first hours of the game you run around gathering basic stuff to craft basic tools then you fight your first lootable npc s to get blueprints for more advanced stuff...

what you dont need, you can sell at npc traders at the nodes. At the nodes you can then accept quests for various professions fight quests, gather quests, taming quests and such. Rewards will help you progressing to setup an industry branch for specific items which each need research to produce which will most likely cost more time to get you to choose how you want to start to progress.

So you probably wont be able to craft more than a few items but alot of them for ppl visiting the node. To trade your items maybe you can hire npc s to sell your items in their shop and with skill in the poficiency of trading you can sell your stuff in more and more nodes further away without traveling but maybe setting up transport contracts. The more complex, the better :p

when you setup your industry or Killing for quest rewards you upgrade the node to unlock dungeons and so on and so forth <3B)
