Rogue cloaking capability.

As I was reading through this post, it made me think of the cloaking ability that typically goes with being a Rogue, enabling a sneak effect. Normally the character just goes invisible but I thought it would be cooler if instead of just being a bubble, the character has a camouflage effect similar to a chameleon. And the character only truly becomes detected when moving or shifting from areas where a change can be noticed by other players. May not be any different than being a clear character but a neater effect.

  • You can look at the different gameplay videos if you want to see how they plan to handle it. You will get to experience it once the BR is available to everyone also.

You are in luck, because that's basically exactly what it is.  This is what you look like cloaked at present.

    Think the movie The Predator
  • Yes the current cloak is pretty dope if you ask me. It not aboslutely OP and you still need some predictability skills on both sides if used in PVP.
  • Got it. Wasted it. Died before I got to use it again.

Perfect example! I should have thought of that. That’s exactly how I was imagining the cloaking should be done and not just be invisible.
    - How long is the cool down for the ability?
    - Not that it really matters because I don’t see how it’s useful in an MMORPG but will there be pickpocketing for any reason?
    - I imagine the cloaking has an enhancing effect on crits for attacks.
    - Do mounts cloak with the character?
    Thanks for everyone’s feedback!

  • No pickpocketing
Crits are a function of hit boxes, so far not effects like invisi have been stated.
    Mount question not clarified.
    There is mass invisi
They have said that you will not be able to be perma invisi, so the cooldown is prolly longer than the duration.
  • I really like the cloaking effect, however I hope they remove the glossy/shiny effect from the cloaking.  It gives away the character way too easily.  A more matte finish would go a long ways to helping a cloaked character not be instantly spotted.
  • A related question...even if someone spots the cloaked figure, will they be able to target it or do anything about it?  Should they be able to?
  • We better get a Predator skin with this ability being in game!

Well...we do have a predator class.
  • I wonder if when cloaked they will be untargetable, but susceptible to AOE effects.

I think cloaked players should definitely not be targeteable by tab-targeting unless you see the cloaked player with some kind of reveal-spell. Because if you could simply tab-target stealthed players then you knew where they are. So Stealth would be useless.

But with AOE and action combat i think it should be different. I mean if i shoot an arrow or some AOE skill in the direction where i think the cloaked player is an i hit him then it should do damage. Stealth is not invulnerability.

    Agreed.
  • just make it like stealth camo in metal gear ^^

The ability is based on the item right now.
    There is no pickpocketing
No the cloaking has no enhancing on crits
There are no mounts right now, and I'm going to venture a guess that says no (but your mount may have a stealth/cloak)

Pickpocketing has been in other mmorpgs.
In Everquest you could actually take, and add,  items to enemies.
Was quite fun going to the newbie area outside Qeynos and putting "highlvl" gear on the enemies and the new players went like "wtf"
Although i dont like the twinking system.

As for stealth, some classes should ofcourse be better at it then others.
A rogue rogue (assassin) should probably be the best at it, some beeing able to stay in "stealth" until attacking, some just having it as a timed skill.
