/ shout channel
So what do you guys think of /shout channels?
Personally I would like it if a /shout channel was only visible within the village/city/hunting zone/dungeon
rather a massive part of the map.
In my experience, mmorpgs in which the /shout channel includes a smaller area are filled with interesting chat conversations (friendly or hostile) relating to the area and activities in it.
Games in which /shout covers a big piece of the Open World map are filled with spam like:
Recruiting members Xlv +
Wts/wtb
LFG
What would you prefer for AoC?

Guild chat is cool.
Inside node chat - fine
Small radius around dungeons - ok
Zonewide? No
Worldwide? Hell no
I think /shout should reach characters within shouting distance but not 180m as the air is unlikely to be still with no background noise happening. Maybe like 100m idk
/say should be normal talking distance like 5m
I love your approach of more realism in the chats.
I would take this furhter:
All messages should be limited to Messenger-Hawks/-Crows/-Flying-Mushrooms.
Everything else should be limited to voice proximity chat.
And if all messages are limited by something what counts as everything else?
Written Messages should only be deliverable by a Messenger-Pet:
Everything else (that is not written) is just voice chat based on proximity.
So you can either go to somebody and talk to him or you can send him a Message via Hawk.
So everyone in a node is going to have a constant stream of pets flying at them from all the message being sent around them?
And if messages take time to send, people will use third party chats.
...yes would be hillarious!
As long as I can customize my chat channels then I don't mind. I usually turn off most global chat channels out of pure annoyance. Unlimited blocking is a nice feature too. Most players I find communicate outside of the game via voice chat and now discord.
