Will Node Towns Be Safe?

Will there be areas in nodes that are safe from wpvp? I want to say that i am very excited about wpvp and I think it will be a lot of fun but will there be safe zones within a nodes city state.

I support the pvp system but I think it would be good if there were some safe areas where you could be free from wpvp.

I just want to know if it will anywhere where pvp is allowed or will there be areas where it isn't allowed. Idk if Intrepid Studios talked about this or not.

I'm fine with safe areas or no safe areas but I am looking for some information on this.

  • I would say that Nodes in general will be pvp free, but it could be that this is not the case....
But the nodes will have guards, which will prefent killing of players most likely^^
Imagine stadning in the auctionhouse and you are in the middle of a bidding war, and suddenly someone kills you. ;D
  • I'm actually not sure, but I would assume that Nodes are wpvp free zones. Maybe with some exceptions in military nodes?
What I can definitely tell you is that your own freehold will be a pvp free zone, you are safe there. (Unless the Node your freehold belongs to, falls in a siege, then even the freehold can be attacked.)
  • We have been told that "nowhere" is safe.

Safe is going to be in so much as a lot of people around, guards around, but no there is not a hard "turn-off" mechanic for PvP in towns.
  • Only safe places are your free hold. You're instanced apartment and when your set up as a vendor
  • Also keep in mind that nodes can be sieged, turning them into a large active PvP zones.

Keeping pvp more open allows the world to feel real. It makes every move you make, feel more at stake. I dont want to feel safe all the time except for a few zones, that not realistic and not fun. Dont worry.
  • I think the idea that they are not safe zones is great as long as it doesn't become a gankfeast. Might improve the social interaction in towns to be more like RL and less like Facebook.  If it does it will just become a ghost town like every other pvp game out there.

I didn't consider this, but one advantage to PvP in towns could be cutting down on trash talking knowing if you push too hard someone might risk corruption just to shut you the f up.
  • Thanks a lot everyone for the information.
  • I would like to see a system like Ultima Online or WoW where you can attack in a town but are going to then aggro guards who will most likely kill you. Unless of course you muster up enough of a force to overtake the guards. However in Ultima, guards would always 1 shot you no matter what.
  • I'm not sure where exactly I stand on this; although I think people's actions should affect their reputation, so people would think twice about their actions.  Say, hypothetically, that people were to be allowed to effect others in social areas, and how they choose to interact should be reflected long term on their characters somehow, similar to real world reputation.  I think it would be nice to give people that option and see how they destroy their reputation which would affect how people and the environment would interact with him, such as not trading with him or pushing him out of guilds (etc.).  On the opposite side people can build their reputation for rewards and incentives.
  • I don't think there should be game systems the incentivize doing thing that would improve your reputation.  That is something that can be handled by the playerbase and community.  If someone is known throughout the land for being a massive dick they're going to hurt their chances of getting into groups and participating in content.
  • I would favor having a player who breaks the peace of a Village quickly be attacked by all NPCs, not only the guards.  After all, violence is a threat to all townsfolk.

    But with exceptions!  For example:

     - If there is a corrupted player, all can attack them

     -  If two guilds are at war, the guild members can fight each other in town

     - During sieges, enemies attacking the town, of course

     - When the town is at war with another town, citizens of the enemy town

     - Depending on yet to be revealed game mechanics, religious fanatics, enemies of the ruling merchants, ex-husband of the city mayor, and other particularly special people

    All the best, TT

I think during a siege the npc citizens of a city should openly attack the sieging forces if they enter the city.

I fought off the guards then Petunia the baker’s wife murdered me with her rolling pin. :(
  • I'd say you can get attacked but if there are guard npc's they will probably sweep the floor with the attacker.
