Problem With The BR

I am just wondering how this will be a good idea. I already know about Apoc being a testing ground and I am on board with it I also know that it is free and you earn cosmetic rewards but I am worried that the BR is going to attract players who play BR games like fortnite. I'm worried that if they start playing apoc they will start demanding resources being taken from the MMORPG and put into the BR. I'm also worried because some people, maybe a lot more than I think, are very rude and disrespectful and this community so far has been very nice and I don't want the BR people to join the community. I know its selfish but this game was/is marketed as an MMORPG and I would like it to continue as an MMORPG and not a BR or the negative type of people will be right and the game might fail. I don't want it to fail because this is a game that I have been waiting for a long time.

After reading the responses I am removing the second section of this post.

  • Thank you for the link. I've read already read it though. That part of this whole thing is ok with me but it doesn't address what I was talking about in the first post.
  • Eh how to put it, Steven and Intrepid are dead set on the fact that the mmo comes first, the BR crowd can jump off a cliff really since Apocalypse is not just the br but also siege and horde mode in other words the 'hardcore' br fans won't really jump onto Ashes full time. As for the community you need to realize that no matter what game/genre there is always bound to be toxic people in it some may change others will stay the same, if you played something like League of Legends in it's early days you would know that right now the community is at least 1000000x better than what it was.

The fact that steven and Intrepid studios want to put the MMO first gives me some relief but I am just super worried that the BR people won't stop until the BR section of Apoc is the only part being funded and everything else gets abandoned. I haven't done much research but apparently the same thing happened with fortnite where the main game was basically abandoned for the BR. I just don't want that to happen here.

Just say "Good luck" and move on. That's what I do and it works pretty well.
  • Considering that Steven was a gamer first and only wants to produce the game that he wants to play should give you an indication that the MMO will always come first.  I am pretty sure that if the BR players get too rude, he will just shut it down for a while to show his focus.

I want to be there to see their reaction for that too lmao, I would actually pay to see that :D
  • I will try to be more optimistic. Thanks for the advice.

Like the others said Steven himself is a gamer, really right now you can only trust the devs or just wait it out for a year and see where it all is upon release.
  • here ya go..... Apocalypse is the free to play testing grounds. The BR mode is only a part of the 3 total modes to be tested. It is also its own stand alone game now that is also in the same universe. So, with this in mind, if players like 1/3rd of another game that happens to tie to the MMORPG.....good for them?
  • He doesn't say anything there about recognizing that his game is about to gain a whole new batch of fans that don't give a crap about MMOs, and are just here for the BR; and the potential pressures that his company will face to acquiesce to that new fanbase (potentially "hundreds of thousands of players," as he claims) as development moves forward.

Every developer says, "Hey, I'm a gamer, too."

Every developer reassures you that their focus hasn't changed... right up until the moment they tell you that their focus has changed.

I'm not saying the project is doomed. But I am saying, don't get complacent. We need to make it abundantly clear that changing the scope of the game at this point is unacceptable. We need to get ahead of this right now, and make sure that we continue to make more noise than the new fans who flock here who only care about the Battle Royale.

Up until this point, I was just sort of sitting back and passively observing development. But now, I feel like I'm going to have to start following along more closely, and be on the lookout for these voices who demand gameplay changes that sacrifice the open world experience in favor of balancing some BR leaderboard. It's going to happen. It's not a matter of if, but when.

Yes this is the only thing I am worried about. I don't really have a problem with BR people unless they try to take resources from a game that isn't marketed as a BR in the first place and put it into a BR mode. I am very worried about this. Other than that I am very exicited about AOC and I support all of Stevens descions.
