I'm a bit worried about this we have not seen the other 4 classes and I feel that intrepid is showing content that most people who have been here for 2 years ago have seen and feel like they are just focusing on new people.

The letter video content was mostly of it was A0 footage

what are other people thoughts

You'll never run out of things to be concerned about, which isn't bad, IS should feel accountable to their customers. That being said, IS is trying to communicate tangible progress as best they can. I don't really know what kind of footage you'd expect for showing the caravan system. Enjoy the mystery of the details imo. And besides, you'd just find the lack of info about professions concerning if you had the classes, and if you had the professions you'd find... you get the point. You have your personal priorities of what information you want to consume but it doesn't match the development pipeline. I think people are anxious to consume more about the game and they mistake their frustration that it's not gratified at the rate they want as genuine, reasonable concern. Even if you argue it's genuine, I'd argue it's not reasonable. Give them time, their systems are non-linear and can't be shown off appropriately in isolation. They need more fleshed out versions of a lot of things for us to get what people really want: an mmo alpha/beta.

So let's put this into perspectives.

Most MMOs don't even get the public involved until Alpha 1, sometimes even Beta, which they then call an Alpha (looking at you Archeage).

AoC isn't even technically in Alpha 1 yet. So the last 2+ years have been bonus time for us who've been around. We normally don't get to see this stuff. And it's dry, it's boring, it's broken, it's not polished.

It's why I was a tad apprehensive about how much Intrepid was letting folk into. Because I was afraid THIS very thing was going to happen.

Very base parts of the game aren't done yet, or fully fleshed out. It's still being grown. The skeleton is there, heart, maybe a liver, stomach, one or two kidneys, but we don't have muscles, lungs, or tendons. And people are wondering why there's no skin or hair yet.

Be concerned. Hell, be a downright hysterical. But be patient as well.

To me, the lack of class information makes sense for a few reasons.

    1. They are still figuring out there combat mechanics. They seem to have some good ideas but are still trying to make the final call on what their hybrid mechanics are going to be. It's hard to build out class kits if you don't know all tools you have.

    2. Classes lack a traditional identity. With their archetype/secondary class system as well as the lack of limitations on weapon and armor, there is a lot of options on how to build out each of the 8 archtypes. A tank/rogue can be build out differently then a tank/cleric.

I think these combine into a situation where it doesn't make a lot of sense to speak more to classes then what has already been said. They can't go show us kits because they aren't sure what ability mechanics they are going to use and there isn't much of a point in talking about them because of the different ways players can customize their archetype.

I'm waiting to see how this next round of testing goes. They made the right call taking down apoc and reworking it (A call not a lot of people can make) but now it's time to see if it paid off.
  • The main thing was Apoc testing dates - I figure this means the rework on networking is ready to be tested, which is a pretty big deal.

With the video, I thought this was the first time they actually showed a caravan escort from the initial docking; earlier they only mentioned it was in progress. Unless I missed an earlier video..

Yeah, I was thinking a lot of the video seemed to be A0 footage.

Nice to know we can ride caravans nekkid!

I’m not expecting info on the missing classes until MMORPG A1.
And I’m kinda expecting that might come in the form of articles first rather than in CD Letter or Dev Diary. With articles for the first 4 classes hitting first.
Heck! I would like to get a list of all the professions!

But, I’ve been able to have hands on with the game way earlier than any other game, so, I’m content.

I kinda expect all games in development might end up varporware until they actually launch. Especially after EQNext and Revival.
But, I’m backing this game so that the devs can work on creating the types of systems I want to see in future MMORPGs.
Even if I don’t end up playing Ashes, I want to help these devs to hone their skills so that it’s easier for them to make quality MMORPGs years from now.

I was a little disappointed that we didn't sit on the caravan BDO style, rather than pull it riding a mount. Perhaps they do intend for us to be seated, and it would ease my mind to think so.

They probably did it that way so they could get it done quicker to show off for the video. They had the animations for riding the horse and it was easy to use the physics to drag the caravan behind the horse. There also might be more work trying to do it the other way and having the caravan push the horse as well as some wacky physics. In the end, they are going to do more work so that you can connect the mount to the caravan and when you mount the caravan, you are actually controlling the horse(s).

We have caravan skins that show multiple mounts pulling the caravan so i'd imagine they are driven from the caravan itself. It would be kind of silly to be sitting on one of multiple mounts as you drag a caravan.

Personally I'd rather be walking beside the caravan instead of riding the cart, that way I can take a more active roll in the defense of the caravan.

You can always just put your horse in your horse pocket, and then fight.

Wait what is missing that you were concerned for? I believe there were going to be 8 classes, and we have 8 classes confirmed. Is it that the playable build did not have 4 classes available? If that is the case, I think it is fine so far. If what I said is correct, then which classes were playable? If I can play as a summoner early, I might consider picking up the Alpha 1 package.

You can't. A1 purchaseable access has been closed for a fair few months now. The reason they have you driving the caravan is that your heath and the caravans health are linked. Kill you, and caravan dies. They announced this gem months back. Call in the alpha strikes boys and girls.

Edit: someone was nice enough to find me the citation.
Q: The PvP zone around the caravan, how much of it is exactly the PvP zone, climbing over it etc?
A: All caravans conform to a specific min and max hitbox. There’s some degree of difference in sizes, but they will never exceed a certain structure. Caravans are of
two different types, system generated ones for quests and player driven where their hitpoints pool becomes one. Can you use it to kite players? Yes you could try that. Can you try to have defenders use LoS? Yes you can do that. https://ashespost.com/4-17-19-simurgh-livestream-transcript/

I wouldn't be concerned the footage was from a0 they already said in the last live stream the newer visuals are not ready yet so they dont want to show the latest iterations. By using a0 when people comment about the animation (which they have through out social media) then Intrepid know that have something in the bank.

The caravan video was a blast from the past. It's great to see unique MMO mechanics return to the forefront. As far as the other archetypes, they have been promised for Alpha-1 for quite some time now.

The missing classes are Summoner, Rogue, Fighter, Bard.
We know the names of those classes, but that’s pretty much all we know about them.
We don’t even have a list of their abilities.
And they won’t be playable in APOC Castle Siege.

I think that's the one piece of news I want more than anything. I have yet to see a mmo do a summoner justice so I hope ashes pulls it out
