So can we be merchants?

Can we build a store and stuff like that and be merchants? I've always wanted to play as a merchant, go out get the materials and resources needed to build weapons, armors, shields, ect will we be able to do that in this game?

Yes, in an Economic Node. You could be a wandering merchant/craftsman but you will most likely need access to the caravan system.
