It depends what pack you get. But even the top pack currently will not let you play immediately (The MMO I mean).

No, you can't play immediately. The highest tier access pack currently on the Ashes shop is the Voyager Pre-Order pack which will give you access to Alpha 2, Beta 1, and Beta 2. We are currently in pre-alpha testing and will be entering full alpha 1 testing around Fall time. Alpha 2 will come sometime next year so the earliest you'll be able to play and test the game is sometime next year (we don't know the specific date).

There is a slight chance that alpha 1 access will go on sale again if certain conditions are met during the alpha 1 tests in Fall, however, at this time you cannot get access to alpha 1.

You need to wait an unspecific time for minimum the alpha 2 time frame (which will not be this year).
