Would love AoC to have a high maximum Field of View.

Any thoughts?

Is having a high maximum field of view important to you? Let me know in this Strawpoll: https://strawpoll.com/7f7gskepa

Thank you!

    Thank you!

They already showcased this in the 4k gameplay video.

I prefer smaller fields of view. When I'm closer to my character, I feel more immersed in the game. When I'm farther away, I feel the opposite. The game starts to feel more like an Isomorphic game/RTS. The worst part for me is that when there is the option, there is always an advantage to zooming out so you can see more.

Pretty sure the engine allows a FOV option so I would see no reason for them not have it in the file product. Especially since people are moving towards ultra wide monitors.

@Tsukasa Please name one that has done this well.

I have played most of the games on the market and have noticed that when I'm closer to my character, I feel more immersed in what's happening. When I'm farther away, I'm not really invested in my character and it feels more like I'm managing my character instead of playing as them.

You can still be zoomed into your character with a large FOV....

...being able to see more is an advantage so it's not really an option...

Yeah.... But everyone has the option. So everyone could see the same stuff if they wanted too.

Almost AAA shooter has this for example.

It's not really an option when the game encourages you to play one way.

    Can you explain?

I get people on 16:9 might not like it as much because it gives a stretch type look. But on 21:9 it makes a world of difference.

Besides I can't see the advantage part of a wide FOV. You see more? Okay but whats that going to do exactly. We have a minimap already, so I don't expect to get ganked because I can't see behind me.

This isn't a competitive shooter like OW or CSGO. It's an MMO.

Now if there is something that will give me a significant advantage I'm going to resort to jumping in your boat.

Maybe I'm miss-interpreting the topic but I'm talking about being able to zoom out from your character to increase your field of view.

Yes, being able to see more might sound like a small advantage but it's still an advantage over being able to see less. It would be one thing if there was some kind of trade-off but as far as gameplay is concerned, there isn't.

So that's just the regular old 3rd person camera stuff. FoV slider would work like this.

You are in action combat for example. So over the shoulder camera, you would see more stuff on the edge of your screen. I would look up a youtube video if you wanted to see more.

The level of immersion it brings is next level on games.
