Questions about Corruption and XP debt.

Let's say someone ticked me off and I killed a green player to get corrupted and then someone Bounty hunter came by and killed me. I lost stuff and now have 4 times the normal XP debt that a green player would get for dying but I still have some corruption. I now have both corruption and XP debt. I go off to kill monsters to get rid of both my corruption and XP debt.

Question #1.
Which would be removed first due to me getting XP from killing monsters or do I get to work of both at the same time?

Question #2.
If I am level 40 at this point and close to 41, can I not level up until I get rid of both XP debt and Corruption or only one of them?

Question/guess #3
In addition to clearing the Corruption and XP debt we have been told the below things so far:
Corruption lowers your PvP effectiveness.
XP debt lowers your overall stats(not your level). So you could be a level 40 but do the damage and have the health amount of a level 30, or even lower, with enough XP debt.

If you have both corruption and XP debt to a large amount(have been killing a hand full of greens(non-combat) for a week). It will be hard to get it off by kill mobs and not die. In theory, it could mean that you aren't strong enough to kill most/many mobs besides 'starter' areas(where other people and bounty hunters will likely be around). Meaning that you end up dying to lose your corruption and giving you even more XP debt to work off due to dying gives you 4 times the XP debt when corrupt(compared to being green).
If this is the case, I like this. This will make it so that people who rack up a 'high' number of player kills and don't take the time to remove your kill count, will be really really punished for continuing to kill more greens.

Comments

  • You get corruption and XP debt which are separate. One comes from being corrupted, the other comes from dying - 2 completely separated systems.

If killing monsters actually lowers corruption I don't see why you wouldn't be able to both lower the XP debt and corruption.

XP debt means your experience is locked backwards - until you unlock all of that experience you cannot progress further towards the next level.

Both Corruption and XP debt will make you less effective. One may just lower your stats and the other may directly cause you to deal x% less damage and take y% more damage. We do not know exactly what that looks like.

In addition dying reduces corruption as well, so by dying the first time you already reduce your corruption by some ammount.

The corruption system is meant to be a punishment for non-meaningful PvP.

So that means if I just have some corruption and no XP debt. I can go kill monsters to work off the corruption and gain XP to keep leveling up. My reward here is that I got the loot from killing a green but the risk part is that I might now get killed by Bounty hunters or other people and end up with both corruption and XP debt.

Yes, that is if corruption is lowered by killing monsters - i am not sure if it does or doesn't so don't quote me

    Yes and no.

If you are killed while corrupted, you will suffer 4x the death penalty and lose a chunk of your corruption. So if you only killed one person, you will probably lose all of your corruption in one death but have an xp debt that is 4x higher then the normal death penalty.

Also, because you drop 4x the resources, you will probably lose the resources you got from your pvp kill as well as any others you picked up while trying to farm off the corruption.

yea, but we don't know the numbers and how much corruption is gained if you kill 1 player. It is going to be different if you kill a level 50 green vs a level 10 green.

Precisely. I doubt a single kill is going to make you lose gear. Steven himself said that you only gain the chance to drop gear when you're heavily corrupted.
