New Node Type: Entertainment

I love the idea of nodes. Each of the four current node types focus on a different aspect of an MMORPG, questing (Divine), trade (Economic), combat (Military), and crafting (Scientific). But what about role playing? With that, I give you the Entertainment node type.

An Entertainment node specializes in role playing and friendly player interaction. Entertainer NPCs are present from the first stage of development (Expedition). Throughout every stage of development, an Entertainment node has more in-world player housing than the others at the same tier (or barring that, extra apartments). Unique buildings could include theaters, dance halls, and casinos. All of these buildings provide some sort of casual diversion from the greater game. Government officials could be selected by sortition (random selection). And the metropolis superpower could give citizens extra chat channels or something to make role playing easier.

The purpose of including Entertainment nodes is to allow role players a place to convene without disturbing or being disturbed by other players disinterested in role playing.

    Taverns and fairs, EVERYWHERE!
  • I'd wait to see how the cities turn out. If they're trying to be at least somewhat believable, all city types should already include some kind of entertainment aspect anyway. I assume you're not counting taverns with their parlor games?

All nodes already have quests, markets, guards, and crafting support. The Entertainment node would cater to role playing like no other node.

I dont like it, you already have caverns and stuff. A lot of ideas pop up lately that try to get special treatment. The concept of this game is to bring people of every kind together and thats how it should be. No PvE, PvP or RP only.
  • An alternate superpower could be Adjoining Freeholds, which incorporates a number of Freehold lots into the layout of the metropolis along its perimeter. This would allow owners of those Freeholds to run taverns and similar social hubs within the bounds of the metropolis. These Freeholds would be lost if the node is destroyed.

Screw it man, instead of making the election process random, why not make it a full-blown poker tournament, darts tournament, a dice tournament, or any entertainment related tournament. Might as well go all-in on the idea.

But on a slightly serious note, while this sounds entertaining (haha), I am not sure how well it'd do or be received because there are freeholds and entertainment-related buildings for cities.
