Pirates ? Ship "caravan"

It will be cool to have a "caravan" system on the sea with merchant ship. This will make it possible to have pirates. What do you think ?

Long answer, no.

Theft of items on the high seas didn't work out for Archeage, and just gave people a reward for behaving badly. I appreciate AoC's approach to not reward people for being "bad guys."

I'm not sure what you mean or are referring to by long answer no. You can destroy a naval caravan and get the same reward you would have gotten for destroying a land caravan.

It's hard to say how profitable pirating will be as it's dependent on players running caravans but technically you can try can do it.

assuming being a 'pirate' operates under the same systems as pvp on land. corruption would put you in a very difficult position.

Caravans do not use the corruption system.

When you get close to a caravan, you can opt to attack or defend it. If you choose to attack the caravan, you are free to kill anyone who has chosen to defend the caravan with no consequence.

Pirates are free to raid naval caravans and won't be punished with corruption.

Naval battles and discovery would take exploration to a huge new level but it's costly. Well, everything is costly so f- it, I would love naval battles and discovering faraway islands. There, I said it.

Thx for the link that was my question. I had no idea that there was Naval caravans.

I'd imagine the real barrier to piracy is enough people having ships or sea mounts.

I think they should just make it so that boarding big ships automatically flags you for combat like Caravans, but without using the Caravan system. I can't imagine anything on the ocean would be low level content, so making the majority of boats pvp zones would probably be for the best. Small ships should not be auto flagged though.

It's about intent. If you board a giant ass galleon then your intent is probably to pvp hence the auto flag. If you on a tiny transport ship then you are just kinda traveling. So the pirates will just be the people who are corrupted in the waters.
