Duel wielding and 2 handed Shields

I hope ashes has more shield depth then just “look it’s made out of dragon scale." I'm tired of the shield getting no love in mmorpgs. Its always a sword and a shield well, I don't want a sword. They could make it so that only the Tank Tank is capable of using the two-handed shield? How do you guys think this would work? Am i a fool?

I could see the point for different weightclasses of shield for some meaningful differences, but a two-handed shield sounds a bit too specialized to really make sense. What would a walking shield even do, actively? Yell?

I want a shield in each hand, not necessarily a 2-handed shield, but at least I want the option to hold 2 shields, one in each hand.

I don't really know, but it's very possible. The thing is, I want to be a summoner-tank (Brood Warden) and I think it could be nice to dual wield shields.

Yeah.. it was probably dark souls.. :P

The main problem with dual shields is that it's a nevessarily silly thing to do. Instead of using two shields, you could very easily use one twice the size to still have a hand free for other stuff. If the shields are so big that you couldn't double its size, there would be no good way to use them together without constantly getting in each other's way. It would be a nightmare to animate, especially if there's more than one type of shield available.

The closest to double shields would maybe be fist-weapons with added protection around the wrist, or a mini-shield around the grip of a weapon, like how the basket of a rapier functions.

Otherwise, you run into a real problem with not making it look superhuman or stupidly cumberdome and passive.

To duel wield them? I should have talked about duel wielding more in my post but I had grouped 2 handed and duel wielding in the same "special shield techniques" and referred to it as 2 handed

I specifically meant that, if you have your hands full with shields, you have no hands left to do anything else. Shields are big, after all. If you can't do anything besides shielding, you are nothing more than a shield with legs.

You could also just have smaller shields, I don't think a Tower shield would be a good fit for the Duel wielding but something like a Buckler shield's size. An off hand shield, just 2. I want to be a shield with legs, that is tanking.

Kind of like the Rising of the Shield Hero, never knew a Shield could do so much.

Instead of two bucklers, why not just use one bigger shield? Wouldn't that protect you far better anyway? AND you have a hand free.

It just clicked what you meant by walking shield! I'm sure you could shield bash with a 2 handed. The goal here isn't to do damage its to take it.

I think Steven answered something like this before - I forgot where though. I vaguely remember him being against 2 handed shields. Don't quote me tho, my memory may be wrong

But a tank has two purposes. To hold aggro and not die. Dual wielding shields makes it harder to die, but you have nothing to hold aggro with. In real life and the game an opponent would simply walk around you and target something that is actually threatening.

One might argue the case for dual-wielded spiked bucklers or small shields. But then again, why not wield a proper weapon in one hand? Apart from flavour (allow it for all I care) I can see no great benefit for holding aggro with it.

So, what playstyle do you suggest for two-handed/dual wield shielder? You do realize tank/tank isn't just a punching bag class, right?

Also too much tankiness can be absurdly overpowered in groups = META.

Dual shield sounds really dumb to me but i'm all about letting people build dumb characters so - yes please allow this. lol

In the wiki, they said that you cannot dual wield shields.

I don't think a dedicated two handed shield would make any sense at all realistically. I think specific skills such as a stance change skill or just a normal ability where your character holds a shield with two hands makes a lot more sense. Pretty much no point at all to ever just walk around normally with two hands on a shield or even dual wield. At that point a class like that would make more sense as a mage tank that can produce protective barriers as their skillset.
