[Poll] What kind of Artisan are you?

AnansiLostChildrenAnansiLostChildren Member, Alpha One, Adventurer
edited August 2020 in General Discussion
Hi everyone, I saw there was a poll for combat classes, so I figured I'd make one for Artisan classes. What do you plan to do in your down time?

Which Artisan Pathway will you choose: strawpoll.me/20816255

Which Artisan Skill(s) do you plan to master first: strawpoll.me/20816299

Drop a line in the comments about why you are interested in that pathway/skill.

I'll ask again once Alpha footage comes out so we can see how the community shifts.

It will be super cool if the best apothecaries in a given server are in some random person's freehold yard versus being run by NPCs.

Who cares about medicine when you've got poisons and other crazy potions.

My main will be a gatherer for sure.

We have so little info that it is very hard to give a definitive answer. I also think there is much value in going for the unpopular choice and be a rare type of artisan because of that. But we don't even know what will or will not be popular either. Across the board and from every angles people are just guessing.

All that said, if I absolutely have to answer now Alchemist gets my gut feeling choice. But that is EXTREMELY likely to change. The top 10 choices is probably an automatic no go for me. Especially since the devs are thinking about limiting certifications.

Yea i feel that. There's two routes here, I think. One is what's the most profitable/least filled position. The other being people actually finding joy in doing the skill for hours. I suppose I was just wondering what profession peeked interest of people the most. That's why I plan to ask again after Alpha to see if peoples' perceptions align with what we are shown.

Post this poll on reddit as well. I didn't expect there to be these many alchemists. Thought most people would be after weapon smithing, ship building and stuff.

I think i am going to go the crafting route early and just focus on what my character needs for upgrades. Not really sure if want to bother with all the gatherables when they stack up. i know my style and i tend to horde mats if i get them. Really want to avoid the pile of belongings when you have a chance of losing them.

Most likely I will be going for gathering first, so when I finally start crafting, I already have lots of materials in the bank. I´m not a very big fan of crafting, but if it´s a nice and intuitive system, I will probably go for it

@RedFlo There are no bank in this game. Not for materials. The longer you hold on to them to more likely you'll end up losing them. Also, if you master gathering you definitively wont be mastering crafting. Not unless you are willing to make a new character.

Yea but there will be storage spaces as long as you have some sort of hold or guild hall to store them in. It's just a matter of getting all the mats there.

I always thought there will be some kind of storage in Guild Halls or when you have your own house.
It's ok to not master crafting, but with master gathering I can provide my guild/friends with needed materials and having some level of crafting on my own char won't hurt

Animal Husbandry had me chomping at the bit when I first heard about it. I was a creature handler/bio-engineer in SWG and it was the most enjoyable crafting experience I had had in a game.

My second choices would be jeweller or woodworker. I'm getting muddled up regarding where I was what, but I did a lot of crafting in both EQ2 and Vanguard. Both games had mini games for crafting that I very much enjoyed. I remember being asked to make specific rings as a jeweller, and I remember doing crafting quests where a friend escorted me through a dangerous area so I could complete my mastery. I think the quests were Vanguard. I just remember him holding off a ton of bad guys so I could examine a rock, or something. He almost died, but I completed my quest.

I remember one game where I was running back and forth in a remote area just to use out of the way crafting tables and complete rare recipes.

Animal Husbandry fills me with ideas about how I might find myself exploring our of the way areas to find rare animals to incorporate into my breeding. I'm very keen to see what Intrepid do with AH.

Ill be going Animal Husbandry unless as more info comes out, it looks like it is going to be a very linear profession.

Splicing animals together sounds like a hoot

Shipwright and gemcutter sound especially good to me. Herbalism is a must just because I enjoy the activity a lot. Scribe maybe, depends on how it's executed as I'm not familiar with such a craft. To be fair I could be invested in a multitude of them. I am interested in processing, I just don't know much about it yet.

Cooking all the way, if it's going to be as deep as the wiki says. I also like the idea of opening a pub freehold, so others can come by and get buffed up before leaving on their journey. After I master that though, think I'll try Animal Husbandry, breeding different animals for pets or mounts sounds like an rewarding Artisan profession, as well as profitable.

I do think the pub system will become more involved than is currently mentioned. I hope they provide means and customization to make it useful. I also hope the number are limited in some capacity, before every guild just tries to throw up pubs in hotspots.

Weird I just dived into the Tavern system last night. I am hoping you can own a Tavern and have a farm on your free hold with cooking mastery to sell the best buffs. That's dope as a melee PvPer who was going to go the consumable route anyway.

    Housing will have storage.
But just like caravans if destroyed in a node war becomes up for grabs.

You and the others do not get it. You just keep piling on materials in your storage. You'll have one heck of a shock the day a node siege drop. Those who have been hoarding completed items are fine however you might lose big time.

I see what you are saying. Have they confirmed that there are zero safe places to store gatherables and gold?

I don't know about gold. I also don't know if there is such a thing as an other worldly extra dimensional storage space that you may or may not somehow obtain (as a unique legendary item maybe ?). If there is I don't think they ever told us. Just because something was never mentioned doesn't mean it does not actually exist in this game.

What they did confirm is that when a node siege drop raw stuff and processed goods are locked where they are until after node siege (including freeholds in the wild). If the node is destroyed then all that stuff that was inside the node (doesn't matter where) becomes the loot/reward for the attackers. For the next 2 hours after the destruction of a node, every freehold connected to that node becomes vulnerable to attack. If destroyed then all of the raw stuff and processed goods in the freehold becomes loot/reward for the attackers.

The devs have consistently described raw stuff and processed goods as something at risk and something you fight for. Does that include gold ? I don't know. Maybe. Perhaps only the gold you have on you as you walk around. I don't know. However completed goods such as items or gear are safe and impossible to lose unless you are heavily corrupted and killed by other players. Even then you only lose what you happen to have on you at the moment.
