You could say, "Well make the abilities fire on the same vector as the slope", and yes that could work. But what if you're on the stairs, and they're on the floor at the top of the stairs a little ways from it and the projectile flies up the stairs and past them into the ceiling.

I agree that projectile angle should not be adjusted to match the ground surface normal because it would be too unpredictable. Projectiles should always fire straight ahead in non-reticle mode. Sampling an average surface normal over a few points and Slerping the angle a little bit might feel nice though.

it absolutely won't be a popular choice for ranged players.

I also agree with this. Ranged classes, especially if the basic weapon attack is a projectile, would want to lock their camera to reticle mode, and should be able to do so easily.

    It's the reason I play my Force/Techer in PSO2 in action-cam instead of the camera-mode you're describing.

I played PSO2 as well and did the same thing when I played Ranger, but I didn't use action cam for melee classes. Using the reticle-based action cam on melee classes did not feel good at all, and that's the thing I want Ashes to avoid at all costs. The freedom of movement from the regular camera mode is much preferable for melee combat and short-distance projectiles. Realistically I think a majority of classes will only have a small amount of aimed projectiles, so I think it would be more appropriate to add the functionality for right-click aim when they're using those abilities and keep non-reticle mode with 360 degree movement as the default. PSO2 is very close to the ideal, but I think they unfortunately used right-click to activate a skill hotkey instead of using it for reticle aiming or even camera control, if I recall correctly.

@BreakeR ok lol I think we're actually on the same page here, I thought you were arguing for the camera mode you were describing to be the main one and possibly the only one, but I definitely agree it has it's uses and I absolutely will always support more control options
