Generic Character Appearances During Sieges - Defined by Castle/Node?

This is my first post, so if something is wrong just let me know.

I was recently reading the wiki and found this:

"A 'default player appearance' may be automatically applied during sieges or other large scale battles to improve client-side performance."

I think this is a great idea, I have played WoW where large battles can quickly become laggy and anything to help on that front is a good idea.

What I was wondering is do you think the leader of the castle/node will be able to pre-define the generic appearance? It could be AWESOME if you had an army of red knights with the nodes/guilds crest attacking a node/castle of green knights with their own crest.

Maybe this is already planned, but I could not find it mentioned anywhere. What do you guys think the generic appearances will look like?

In this situation, I think it makes more sense if the appearance is simply what ever is going to be easiest to run.

The whole thing is being done for performance, and they are likely to have a singular look per race/gender that will be the easiest to run.
  • True, I guess it depends on the amount of performance gained. I will have to say I think I would be a little disappointed if the only difference between my allies and enemies is the blue or red text above their heads. But if it improves performance I could live with it.

Well any base default-armor character model would be easiest to run, unless they're making a specific low-poly model just for performance scenarios.

If it's the former, I definitely think it would add an immense amount of immersion if the defenders all appeared as dwarves for a dwarf city, and orcs for an orc city.
