Resets skill three

silionsilion Member, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
I have question about skill three.
"Players are able to reset and reallocate their skill points."
I think there is a small problem because if someone put 2-3 months or even half year to invent some rly op combo with talents/skills so then everyone just go to town, reset a skill three and use that build.
Resets if are common they running down concept of being unique. Just imagine being this guy who waste for ex. 3months to get his own skill build. During this 3months his build was just "meh" and then instead of being happy that in the end it works. Everyone just copy, putting build on some tierlist website and again he is no-one instead of being LEGEND (ok, maybe i over hyped that. Lets say "unique")
I undestand that propably it is not possible to remove resets from the game cause everybody makes mistakes and reaching 50level taking to much time to try once agaiin with another build.
In my opinion Metin2 (but old metin2) made a rly great job wiht "resets" problem.
For ex. u are 35level and 70skillpoints(when 1skillpoint = 1 upgrade) to put. You can upgrade skill maximum 10 times then uve to made some special train or something else to put this skill on mastery level and continue progressing with upgrading this. So there is solution. U can reset any time you want but only if skill is not trained to "Master/grandmaster/etc" level. Thanks for that u can build how u want and only when u finally choose ur final build u master choosen skills to Master+. After that resets of particular skill should be impossible or very very hard/expensive.

We currently dont know if people will be able to inspect your current skill tree.
If you make an OP Pogchamp 360 no scope build, then that will be yours until you share it with others.
I dont plan to let others know everything about my skilltree except what i go for and my combat role.

As stated, we down know how the skill reset works.
It could even be tied into a level 6 node.
It could also be super pricey and hard to do.
Could be locked behind a quest.
    We just don't know yet.

I am however wondering how someone would know you build?
Its not like you can look into other peoples skill three.
I gues you can see what abilitys you used, but that doesnt count for the level of each ability and what points you put into pasive and weapon skill tree.

If you do however make a build that steamrolls everything then its most likely going to be nerved anyway.

I plan on telling as many people as I possibly can about the top tier choices for tanking and tank pvp. I don't understand why people want to feel special in an mmorpg? As if you are actually special for having a build that people don't know? please.....

I believe, that he thought about something like how WoW is currently doing it.
Anyone that inspects another can see their build path in their talents etc.

Because of the sheer amount of different builds and the lack of a dps meter, I don't think that identifying broken builds is going to be an easy thing. I hope that they release weekly/2-week balance updates.

I think I remember seeing somewhere that patches are monthly and content updates are quarterly which is pretty awesome. Don't underestimate my ability to find broken builds my friend : ). If I can break the game, it will be so!
  • My thoughts on the topic are that reallocating skill points should be easier than changing your second archetype.

Neither should be free or convenient.

Once that rumored 20% of non open world raiding comes out maybe possibly consider a super grindy quest to allow for a second spec.

I would to see an extensive lore driven quest chain to earn your sub archetype. This would add world building and you would have to do the quest before being able to jump from a bard sub spec to a mage or whatever.

Wanna be a Knight? Do a quest that involves being knighted.

Wanna be a Battlemage? Do a quest that involves training at a ludis.

And to add to that idea, a Keeper and a Warlock both involve summoner, but are very different aesthetically and mechanically. So they should have different quests.

Oh I know damn well that you will find one. Its the devs' ability to find broken builds that I'm concerned about.
  • I just hope that they ponder about making things too costly or imposing too many constraints when resetting things.

  • The last thing I want to see is flavor of the month meta builds.
