Templar class to Paragon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar
"The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon (Latin: Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Salomonici), also known as the Order of Solomon's Temple, the Knights Templar or simply the Templars, were a Catholic military order founded in 1119, headquartered on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem"

They were keepers of Christian temples and bodyguards of peregrines. It has strong cultural, religious and political connotations.
Unless there is a loot of temple guarding in the game I think changing the name to Paragon does not harm.

Paragon migh be as good as Templar for a class name.

I'm not religious nor from a non-christian country but I think it might be worth considering from a a user story perspective.

Templar is pretty often used in games for a tank class. I think the name Templar fits perfectly especially going with cleric since clerics and priests are usually to do with prayer and healing. If anything, I think it'd be better to replace Apostle with Paragon because I genuinely don't see how that's a class name.

"Often used" is the other word for lazy thiking.

If you use the word "templar" you are calling for a jihad.
If you want to read a fictional, romantic and heroic tale of a Templar read The Crusades Trilogy from Jan Gillou.

Crusades were political moves and fanatism, not idealistic nor romantic. Templar is synonym to christianity.

    An unnecesary wink to politics.
Want to use the archetype of pious knight? Let's use a tabula rasa: Paragon, Sacred Knight, Holy knight, or something similar.

People have a knack for politicizing everything... Posts like this in a video game forum are honestly ridiculous.

Honestly, that was the same vibe I got from this thread. It seems like such an unnecessary change and complaint so early lmao.

Early considerations are good for proyects, and the change is minimal. Nothing to lose.

    Humans are political by nature.

It's the name of a class that's not even out yet. Not what I'd call a "proyect". Also let humans be political, I'm gonna be an elf :smirk:

Real talk, the concept of a templar being a defensive figure for a religious reason that has to do with being a cleric or priest is perfectly fine and doesn't need changing. You're diving too deep on a name referencing too literal of definitions. If you have this issue with Christianity or religion, you should have issues with many of the other class names too like Apostle or Cultist. You're not painting this idea in a good light at all.

"Tank" is the only one that feels out of place for me; it's a role not a class.... a long the same lines how "Damage", "Heals", and "Utility" would also make for poor names for root classes.

Now THIS I agree with and I'm glad someone else noticed this. It's just... then what could they call it? Defender?

Sure, but you don't have to politicize this game. This is so ridiculous. It's a fantasy MMORPG. Don't get offended by a class name.

What makes you think I'm making a case because I'm offended?

If you're not offended and are still making this post, then you are completely ridiculous and looking to stir up drama. Stop that. It's a game. Templar is normal class name in RPGs. This thread is absolutely ridiculous.

I see not fail in that logic.

At the end of the day, a name is just that, a name and should hold no relationship to terms used in real world religion. If we were to rename the Templar for this we would also need to rename the Cleric as that also has significance in real world religion.

Either way, since this thread is already dissolving into religious and political debate, I'm closing it as those topics are against forum rules.
