Some possible faults, questions, and worries about the Corruption System.

The corruption system is looking really good and well done. However, what if you're a Non-combatant and you accidentally hit someone? Wouldn't you gain the combatant title? If a corrupted kills you, would you suffer the penalties for dying? Cuz that seems so unfair cuz u didn't die by skill.

Since there is already a system in place that if combatants kill a non-combatant, they will be corrupted; Why not give people a choice to choose if they wanna be a combatant or not? What I'm hearing at here and reading is, it only triggers if you initiate combat with someone. Doesn't that seem a little ridiculous?

You have to target someone with a damaging attack to become combatant. They don't trigger it by running through aoe or such. An opt-in system to flagging is not going to happen. Your opt-in is don't attack them while having them tab targeted.

The corruption system will be tested extensively during the alphas and any needed adjustments will be made.

Are you suggesting giving players the option to be combatant or not as in the non-combatant would be unable to be attacked (or attack) other players entirely? This would make the corruption system useless and in general ruin the game design by creating self activated safe zones for players. Now if you're suggesting people should have the option to toggle combatant without attacking anyone, then in that case I agree with you 100% and have made a post about it. If you would like to read how the thead played out:

To your first point when you die you will suffer death penalties regardless if you're non-combatant or combatant, in the example you gave you would actually benefit from less death penalties while in combatant and killed by the corrupted player - alternatively the corrupted player would not gain additional corruption for killing you however.

Hi there - sounds like some helpful folks above already pointed you in the right direction! You can also check out more on where we've discussed how players initially get flagged for combat, as well as any penalties associated with death depending on your status, in the helpful community-run wiki here: https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Player_flagging

As the corruption system is an essential mechanic to the game, we'll definitely be looking for your feedback on it as we march forward with testing!

I'm going to go ahead and close this thread out now, but please don't hesitate to reach back out if there's anything else we can assist you with in the meantime!
