It'd be nice to see how everything is at the start though, and how things work, to give early feedback and all. :P
I don't mind throwing 30-40 bucks to get into the alpha ;)
I do wanna know what they mean with "weekly drawings" though, does it mean only a few people get selected each week, so they can try it out for a day or two, then next week they choose some other people?
Either that, or maybe the weekly drawings will be going on until the Alpha is up, so through out the weeks until its live, there'd be a decent amount of selected players to join it.
I'd say a closed limited alpha could come next year, but they do not have that many people working on it.

Well, what we saw was just the enviroment and basic combat and gameplay. There was no info if the game is going to have quest system, dungeons, crafting and all the other gameplay aspects. From what i read the dev team formed like in the late 2015. I dont think they have finished or even prototyped the aspects i mentioned. But i may be wrong and they are super fast at developing :)
What functionalities they want to implement and at least prototype it, then confront it with players feedback. I think they are now at the stage of designing stuff. Maybe it will be good to invite players for an active development, like the new fresh air in the industry. Developers and players developing the game we all want...ehh dreams...we all know players are whiny and always unhappy :D]
Also remember that the first impression is very important so if they want to show the game to the public, they need to at least polish it to some level. Ofc we all know its alpha and stuff, but You know if ppl pay money for the access (and i guess Youll be able to buy it through kikstarter) they feel entitled to have at least playable product if its accessible.
A real Alpha? Maybe a year out. If the bulk of it is pretty much fleshed out and the whole cycle is for marketing and hype? 2nd Quarter of 2018. But it really is too early to tell about any of that from what I can see.

you cannot register for the alpha yet, but by signing up to the website you gain entry to the weekly key drawings giving you a chance at a Alpha Key.
