Hello guys,

I'm Linked and like all of us I'm a HC gamer. So the thing I've always wanted to see in MMORPG's are Werewolf's and Vampires as playable factions. I've always wanted to see this in game and no game up to this point at least in the MMO gen has done it properly. ESO is close but it still lacks. That's kinda the reason I started learning ZBrush, since I'm hoping to create a game of my own one day.
But until that day, it would be really awesome if you could make something like that, in my eyes it would fit perfect into your world. And I bet it would create guilds of its on and big scale PVP's if you do it properly. Also mby a hunters guild for those factions. I don't wanna blable any more, if you guys are interested I'd be more that happy to share my ideas with you.

So that is my long time wish, thank you for your time!

Regards,
Linked

  • Vampires and werewolves are awesome, how would you mix the thematics and aesthetics of high fantasy with gothic fantasy?

Probably not going to be a standalone race, unless with a large expansion post release.

Considering their popularity, they might very well come through a racial cash shop skin though.

You say that it would fit perfectly into this world and then say that the factions would create guilds of their own. That shows you don’t really understand the game and what would fit into this world.

Factions in AoC are player made and can fluctuate because players can drop guilds or citizenships at any time and join another guild or citizenship. If vampires and werewolves were their own faction and made their own guilds, they would be limited in their faction/guild choices (which is the opposite of AoC’s design goal).

The main evil in AoC is corruption and corruption doesn’t seem to create exactly vampires or werewolves. It creates corrupt creatures and corrupt creatures are to be exterminated... they are not a desirable player faction.

I really don’t see how this idea would “fit into this world”.

I could see this kind of thing being tied to religion, especially for one of the gods that betrayed the others. I'd prefer not a straight copy of vampires and Werewolves but would be cool if worshiping one of the gods took inspiration from those aesthetics.

I doubt if vampires or werewolves would make it in, but it would be great if they did :)
They don't have to be based on corruption. Instead a current character could become infected with either and transform over time using a template with suitable bonuses, negatives, desires (possibly uncontrollable), and an alteration to the character appearance. The relevant guilds or factions mentioned above could be created by players that wanted such a group.

Unfortunately, a combination of problems are likely to prevent it. I doubt scope creep will allow for them to be added prior to release. Additionally, using traditional monsters such as this doesn't fit well with the current vision as the fantasy in this game seems to be pretty unique. I am not sure that this idea would fit in Steven's vision of Ashes.

Also, even adding after release potentially changes the balancing significantly. Adding a template of bonuses on top of the current system increases the power cap. The way to balance additional templates would be to add the vampire / werewolf templates to horizontal progression, meaning that abilities from other horizontal options (such as religion, thieves guild, etc.) would be given up for the new template.

So you're not looking at it as I am. I would like if there were like npc in the world, and a chance to be infected by them or a quest line. And by my logic if there is one guy that is a werewolf like a player he can pass the curs on after he unlocks the skill or by combat. And the he would make a guild, so It would be player driven in my eyes. And I wouldn't like them to be a race or something cuz that just kills the immersion and the point of it.
    Example:
You are doing your thing, and you like star to wonder around the world and all of a sudden you hear a beast in the forest. It like hunts you like a scripted little act and there is like multiple outcomes. A: you kill the beast and the a new quest appears where you go and ask the local villagers about it and star exploring etc.
B: you don't kill it but you survive and get infected etc.
Like I could go on with this, but I think it would fit well it is fantasy, and it doesn't have rules. Don't be in a box mate.
P.S. If the devs want it, they can find a way to make it fit in. It's just a matter of their perspective.

The corruption is not tight to them, it is just a roleplay aspect that defines your charecter. Mby it forces you to kill npc and adds corruption and you have to balance that. All in all there is always a way to make things fit, just use your imagination.

I don't see it as a theme at all.

Simply it would be a hidden world event or rare npc with no pointers. Only a random encouter that triggers the quest or a let say were wolf attack that infects you. From there you would have a choice to either find a cure, become one of theme or hunt them down. Like imagine that one player wants to be a wolf and it is added to him as a skill line and he can infect other willingly or a chance in combat. And then the dude goes on a rampage in the city and infects a random player. So random player no2 is pissed, completes the quest line find the cure and now he starts a hunting party for the guy with his friends. And there you have it the first Hunters guild and the first wolf guild.
Cherry on top a vamp npc notices this and offers him a gift to aid him in his hunt xD

I mean there are a lot of options.
