Magic Scrolls! - Magic Consumable Used to activate the spells stored inside of them!

hello! while i was typing out my response too the overgearing thread made by the developers i had an idea relating to spells

Magic Scrolls :D

Magic Scrolls could be a rare drop from certain mobs that contain a specific spell!
the type of the spell itself could be directly influenced by the mob that drops the scroll!

(if its a good idea) scrolls could be a craftable consumable that uses different high level materials to create (the system used for crafting scrolls if its a good idea definitely needs to be worked on since i haven't really thought it through that much)

the types of spells contained within these scrolls vary from combat spells
to camouflage spells (if that's a thing kekw) to simple utility spells!
the amount of uses a scroll has directly depend on the level of the mob that drops it or how many resources were put into creating the scroll
generally speaking doe, the most effective scrolls would be single use scrolls used in extremely desperate situations

another cool idea could be for some spells to be only present in ancient scrolls, a rare scroll that could be a reward for beating a high level dungeon! dealing an extreme amount of damage or temporarily buffing yourself or a target by a tremendous amount for a very limited time (im guessing the bard class will be a buff based class so im basing this type of spell off of the bard class)
ancient spells will only be use able once and could be classified as a legendary dungeon drop for some of the higher level dungeon boss fights
rewarding players who are able to beat dungeons quickly and effectively even more if they receive them!

i should also point out that any level player can use scrolls including any class! doe of course with limitations compared too the original spell

Let me know what you guys think about this idea! id love to hear your opinions on this matter and maybe even hammer out the details and possible mechanics scrolls may have if its ever implemented into the game!

I could also see this being used by Scribe artisans to inscribe various class spells into for use by other classes.

    +1 from me.

As an old pen and paper D&D player scrolls are just another consumable just like potions and I would love to see them as another consumable created through the artisan system. Perhaps they could work in a similar way to potions but be more offensive based. You are low on mana but wait I have that scroll I penned. They may need a cool down on them as potions will probably have.

For me this is a fantastic idea and I would love to see it implemented.

If there is a proper list for what spells you could do. If you don't make it its own list then they will either suck too hard or be too powerful.

I like the idea in the event that it is properly implemented. If not properly implemented it wouldn't necessarily ruin the game either, but just be a dumb system of no value.

The problem is WoW devolved into a bunch of dumb systems of no value. That game is an example of what happens when you don't do systems like this properly.

I do like how it adds a gameplay use to a profession though. Professions being useful in combat is rarely a thing seen. So I'm a fan of whenever it is possible as long as it isn't overbearing.

I like the idea as another consumable. Maybe tie it in with the Scribe-Profession.

I also think, that there could be a lot of interesting Abilities, that can be put into spells. Maybe not so much offensive, but primarily utility.

Dispells, a short range blink, a short duration camouflage, the environmental transformation we have seen in apocalypse. Reduced version of the Mage's Forcefield, Blackhole, Safe Space or After Image. The Ranger's jump/sprint. The absorb bubble, cc break, javelin or shockwave of the tank or the clerics resurrection.

Obviously, there would have to be some balancing done. (Scrolls having a relatively long, shared cooldown and being a worse/minor verison of the class dedicated abilities).

Higher Level Scribes could make the Ability Versions close to the class original and reduce the shared cooldown.

I personally think there is a real tough balance between providing a consumable that is worth using, isn't encroaching on potion/food/drink/ammo territory, and also isn't game breaking.

The ability to simply place any spell on any scroll so that any player can use it would be game breaking. You'd have fully defensive spec'd tanks casting nukes and self healing. It may cost them a lot, but there are always players with coin willing to spend it.

On the other hand, I like the idea, and if it can be done without breaking the game, I'd be all for it.

Yeah thats why i suggested various spells. You could even do it like they do in dnd where you have different tiers of spells, allowing low level characters to contribute to the profession so that lesser versions can be made. That or just have tiers of spells on any character so that even at max level you can cast the rank 1 fire bolt.

An example would be the recent Cleric ability Devotion.

This would be a neat spell that provides a bit of healing and the more materials/powerful the spellcaster, the better the scroll can be.
I highly suggest they make scrolls a massive material sink if they are going to allow them use without cooldown. This will make them valuable and cut into their rarity, especially the high tier scrolls that require more rare materials. This creates a lucrative market for all tiers of spells as even the weakest form would provide some sort of utility in large numbers. an interesting part of this is that a scribe should be allowed to get other players to instill their spells into a scroll for them. So you could make a business of that too.

Now perhaps allowing *anyone* is too much, so maybe they could be locked to class use only? So a necromancer could use scrolls that have shadowmancer abilities on them and vice versa.

idk, just spit-balling at this point.

Yeah, the drop from the Raid Boss would likely be in the form of some kind of resource, which you could then take to the Scribe to create the scroll. I don't think they should be too strong/overpowered, but I can see it working in-game.

As a person who is going to use books as weapons, I would be 100% happy with scrolls

I've seen a lot of ideas pop up in this forum that at a glance I knew would never be possible or happen in an MMO.

But this...this I can appreciate. And who knows, maybe Intrepid already had something like this in mind for Scribes.

A +1 from me, as well.

i agree and im happy to see people are interested in the idea :D
definitely needs some work in terms of how it would be balanced
but if those kinks are sorted out i feel like this could be a nice little addition too the game :D
