Player Created Items for In-Game Consideration: Concept, process, thoughts.

Not sure this has been discussed already - I searched and didn't find anything.

I'd love to know if making the textures/modeling available to artistic players could be considered. It would allow players to create fun visuals and learn the technology for personal use, however... for those especially talented designers, incredible things could be created - and if they are lucky - included for in-game use.

Pottery, weapons, clothing, housing materials, anything/everything.

There would be no promise or expectation that someone's work would be accepted.

However... if something is created and becomes overwhelmingly supported by the player community, and the devs feel it is truly exceptional, it could find it's way into the game.

  • I heard of design events in some games where some designs were actually turned into costumes in-game.

    Sounds interesting.

In the games where I've seen this done, they usually have to put some sort of agreement into the EULA that any ideas you generate belong to the company - otherwise the company becomes susceptible to lawsuits if a creator gets particularly greedy.
