more information about philosophy in systems and desing in general

i want to know what is the philosophy behind overall desing and what do you think about elegance in mmorpg. Some of them opt for an hyper-realistic/too much detail kind of desing that end on some mechanics being boring to do or confusing to see.
love what i've seen so far, cheers from Chili.

The overall design is to bring back the mmo experience, which is you have a character and you progress out in the open world, where anything can happen. You may get killed by a player, you may take the wrong turn and face a bunch of harder mobs and get killed, you may discover a cool place or loot a cool item.

Teamwork is important. Players cant master all income avenues (blacksmith, hunter, alchemist etc), but only one. You need to buy and sell to other people.

It's not a single player game. If yoy want to experience all content you better be a part of a group, a part of a guild. You do some dmg dealing, some1 else will tank, some1 else will healer, some1 else will support. Thus you will kill monsters hidding in tough locations where good mats and loot away for the strong.
There will be conflicts of interest, either at personal lv or guild lv. There will be unexpected PvP. That is the story of the game. The rise and fall of guilds and players.

The world of each server will be different, because players build towns, and different towns may awaken different raid bosses ir uncover different caves or ruins.

As @George Black said, the core aims with Ashes is to bring back the social aspects that make mmorpgs such a special genre. The other main design philosophy (in my opinion) would be to bring back a true sense of risk and reward that is lacking is a lot of modern mmorpgs. You can get a better sense of the sorts of things Intrepid are aiming for by reading the mmo section on the website: https://ashesofcreation.com/mmo
