what about "mentor" systems? like in wow. for example: helping a newcommer will get him a xp buff and you will get a little bit of Embers (capped).
Not neccesarily recluit a friend that doesn't have the game yet

    Mentor program

Levels or skills will not be scaled to allow low level players to participate in dungeons with higher level players.[213]

There will be a mentorship program where upper-level players are able to benefit from partying and/or helping lower level players; and getting them situated in the game.[213]
Certain node buildings and organizations offer quests that can be initiated by a mentor to assist new players. Rewards are offered to both the mentor and the mentee upon completion.[221]
    Leading a mentee through a dungeon.[221]
    Meeting at pre-arranged locations.[221]
    Escort quests for NPC caravans.[221]

There will be activities that are present for higher level players to mentor lower level players. Let's say you have a friend who joins later on and you still want to do things with them, there will be things to do. Will he be able to enter a dungeon of your level and participate? No, because we don't want to inflate or deflate characters and manipulate that type of skill or power. We want that to be something that makes sense for them in a progression standpoint.[222] – Steven Sharif

The mentorship program provides individual quests that can be initiated by the mentor based off of what node that they are part of. So these are like quests that are determined by either certain buildings and/or organizations or the mayor; and there are specific ones that are available for mentors to provide mentees; and they can also participate in some of those quest lines as well: Whether that be leading your mentee through a dungeon or providing a location for them to arrive with you at, or escort quests for the NPC caravans. These types of things, when done together with your mentor, will provide benefits both for the mentor and the mentee as well, so you're incentivized to participate with new players.[221] – Steven Sharif
Most people never listen. They are just waiting on you to quit making noise so they can.

Honestly, if you need physical rewards, you're not a good mentor to begin with.

Mentoring is investing in the future. Back when I was a horrendous noob, not even grasping the need/greed concept (I know) rather than being kicked for needing everything (because it looked like I won more) they taught me things, grabbed me by the hand as it were. I stayed loyal to them throughout the life-span of the guild in question. And they're still in-game friends of mine. Fifteen years later.

The point is, being a mentor is inherently unselfish, people who naturally gravitate towards such a thing tend to be good at it. Add something tangible to it. And you muddy the waters, possibly resulting in a worse experience for the trainee.

Welcome to the community. You can find a lot of good information on the Wiki. The wiki is run by the community not Intrepid. They do a good job providing links to the source.

I agree in some degree, i think it can encourage and helps people that like to help to do it so. is like a quest, if the quest has no reward at all you will never do it, but the moment it has a reward you want you discover that doing that quest was actually fun. and by "need" you don't really need it, just want it. no p2w

So, here is why I don't like "mentor" systems in mmorpgs. Oftentimes, people will become "mentors" in game just for the rewards it gives them, even though they a) have no idea what they are doing themselves, and b) don't care at all about the people they are supposed to be helping.

If I want to help someone with something, I'll help them, regardless of whether I have a mentor title/tag or not. I'll do it because I want to help them, not because the game encourages me to do it. The satisfaction of helping someone and seeing them grow is reward enough for me.

The only "mentors" worth a damn are those that you already know.

A system that rewards high level players to help low level players does nothing more than make those high level players look at those low level players as nothing more than a means to an end. It doesn't do anything to help the low level players.
