Marriage and religion system idea

My idea is to intertwine the marriage, religion and government systems. Each religion has a hierarchy based on node size. So when 2 players want to get married they pay varying amount of currency based on the level if the religious player that marries them. They receive a stat buff based on the level of the religion of the player that married them. Or they can choose to have the node mayor perform the marriage at a cost, where the different type of government mayor gives a different stat buff. This will encourage marriages, players using the religion systems and a way to make in game currency.

Sounds overly convoluted and subject to serious min/maxing with those stat buffs.

I'd rather not have anything stat-related in regards to marriage, unless it was something like "When you're in a party with your partner X happens", where X is something like a love or charisma meter that could unlock more of the mentioned marriage quests or social hubs. Mainly because then it forces players to marry (anyone that will do it regardless of interactions afterwards) just to get the stat bonus.

Also, when I get married in game I'd rather have it be with an NPC simply because I wouldn't want to be locked out of marriage because a player that could perform the ceremony wasn't around/wouldn't do it (could also cause some issues if the leadership doesn't like certain marriage types which I'd rather not even attempt to deal with). Plus, if marriages have a ceremony attached I'd rather not have to invite strangers id I didn't need to.

I don't mind the idea of paying for the marriage though, with the civil wedding being a flat rate while a religious wedding could have varying pricing. Could prove a small but interesting concept.
  • If they add a Marriage component to the game, they need to add a Divorce one too. Who doesn't like to watch train wrecks.

There is already a marriage system, it's been talked about for a while, no idea on the divorce bit. Might have to Henry the 8th people.

I don't like the whole marriage/family/etc idea at all, to be honest.

I got married in SWG but all my stuff got robbed by the 'wife' at the time. I really won't repeat such a circumstance again, not even if it 'unites the clans'.

I would not want to see additional buffs that are unfair to those that intend to stay single in the game.

I'm happy for other players to marry each other and have the benefits already stated for families:

[Please note that additional node related quests are already headlined]
Quests that give Wedding and honeymoon related cosmetic items I'm happy with.
I'd like to think that there will be a luxury Nikua holiday resort for people to go to looking something like Bora Bora.

    ROFLMAO Consider that a Divorce!

Yeah, there was a divorce shortly afterwards. And swift PvP which would have made me corrupted in Ashes of Creation ;)

Sad to hear it Neurath. :[

Quick Trivia: A digital divorce led to someone being arrested when they logged onto their digital spouse's account and deleted their character in Japan.

Back on topic: Unfortunately, there is no blood to run thicker than water in Ashes. So tactical marriages won't hold much sway in making alliances. It totally makes sense that religion and government are integrated together in a Religious node - but I wouldn't say the same for other nodes.
I wish I were deep and tragic

I hadn't even thought about divorce...I'd hope it'd be a thing in case something goes wrong, but wonder how that would interact with the family system. Drama over who would get to keep grandma hahaha

I do not like this idea at all. Let people get married cool. Claim people are in your family.....that's pretty awesome. My actual son will be playing with me so this would be a neat scenario. Any perks gained from these things needs to be HEAVILY limited or I will abuse the shit out of them. I will force myself into min/maxing every single possible option. Don't make me do this. Let me enjoy the game without worrying about playing it while "missing" buffs/stats/perks.
