I feel like the one of the only ways to fix such an immersion issue is to make levels more immersive, not the level requirement. There is plenty of things intrepid could do to make the concept of a level have an in game lore reason to exist.

    That's an interesting thought @Lashing

Any suggestions or examples for that?

My first idea would be doing something with Essence considering that is really the core of everything.
Too much essence and you become corrupted. If you make gear by infusing essence into materials that could explain why a lower "level" character could not use equipment with a high level of essence. If levels were just how much exposure to essence your character could stand it would kind of explain the gear level requirement. They could let you use higher level equipment and as a massive downside it would make you corrupted. As your character would be exposed to more essence than they could tolerate.

It would basically make gaining experience as a concept into a kind of exposure therapy.

I was just thinking if they wanted to restrict drops from lower level monsters the logic could be that you overexposed the low level monster to essence and destroyed the certs or materials.
