Anti-world boss griefing

Fighting a world boss and dealing with PVP is kind of cool but not over time it can ruin the fun IMO so this is my idea to counter the griefing that we may see in the future

    Uh. Nope.
I don't think griefing can really be a factor in the manner you suggest because groups don't own the boss...or any mob.

This is just an instanced boss with extra steps. Additionally I assume no one else would be able to do this boss at the same time? I think you should either have it fully open, or fully instanced, so everyone who wants to can join the fight.

I believe contested world bosses are an intentional game design in AoC

Attacking other players != griefing, i don't get why people say this so much.

I think you are mixing up the words griefing and contending here. Nothing about multiple parties contending with each other for a boss is "griefing".

Edit: Unless they are abusing mechanics or exploits not intended by the designers it's supposed to be free game. Plus, if they don't want you doing certain things they will fix the game.

Probably referring to mechanics that involve overstacking a kill on a boss that causes certain mechanics or like Kazzak in WoW purposefully killing yourself to heal the boss. That would just be a better boss design that doesn't involve griefing attempts such as that.

I suggested something similar in the past, but ONLY if the DEVs are trying to create a true progression style boss. A better solution to me would be that a world boss drops a PoE style map that a guild could take back to their freehold and get an attempt at a proper instanced boss. Where a wipe would destroy the map and lock you out type of thing.

This is only in the case that AoC wants proper progression style raid bosses. Something that I have seen very little evidence of personally. Otherwise PvP is a boss mechanic.

I agree with everyone who said no in this thread.

  • Thanks for your thoughts
In my point of view PVE + PVP at the same time is just not a good interaction.it's just like in darksouls the PVE is great untill u get invaded by a person and now u have to deal with bunch of NPCs + an invader which is totally unfair and onesided and yes i know DS is not an MMO but i hope u get the idea

Well that was also intentional game design

And just like the intention is with contested world bosses, Soulsborne series invaders add a level of danger to the game that adds to it's theme.

You might not think it's a good interaction, but many think otherwise

honestly I see the most effective thing to do with the WBs is to have a group of PvP focused members fighting back on coming groups while the PvE/PvX team pop the boss. Dual battles that require coordination and tactics to effectively solve these issues. Group 1 beats down the boss while Group 2 keeps them safe from PvP/Gankers. Sounds like good fun to me, gives it that feel of always being in danger and needing to socialize to complete big events like this. I am a pretty strict PvE tank player but I will for sure be prepared to need to defend myself against other players and as much as i dislike PvP, I for one look forward to tanking a WB and hearing a guildie or group member tell me we have an opposing force arriving.

The entire point of this game is the opposite of your suggestion. Players with instanced raid mentality will have to rethink their entire approach to this game.

I understand that when you're focusing on downing a boss it can be frustrating for another player group to throw a wrench in what may have been a good plan. The developers are encouraging this type of dynamic in order to create what they are calling "soft-tension". Forcing groups to either cooperate and make agreements with nearby groups for either aid or peace OR fight it out, temporarily eliminating the threat. Both scenarios will create lasting changes to the gameplay for both groups that will have the potential to affect alliances, trade, hunting areas, node development, and further pvp. Personally I enjoy that, as it adds another element of social gameplay that is overlooked in many MMOs now.

Simply put, "Don't go into a game with the mindset of another game"
  • I don't call it griefing, I call it contesting objetives.

As this is a big part of the game I don't see them changing it anytime soon

As head of intelligence for my guild, I look forward to obtaining information about other guilds attempts at world bosses so we can come over and do some "griefing".
  • FerniFerni Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
I don't like the idea, if the game was only PvE I would agree with it but it's not the case. Most of the best PvP moments I remember from Archeage were defending or fighting other guild's world bosses, adding a giant bubble to the boss would prevent to this encounters to happen.

In Lineage 2 we used to fake raids to lure in rival guilds. 1st team run in like they are going to go after boss, rival guild pulls in close ready to pounce, 2nd team pulls in behind rivals.... Then we hit them from both sides lol.

World Bosses should always be up for contention, otherwise, what's the point? Just give us another generic instanced yawn fest. And stop adding 'griefing' onto anything you dislike, it's become a huge issue in gaming, especially the MMO scene.

If you don't enjoy or even abhore the idea of pvp in your pve this is not the game for you.

It's been stated pretty repeatedly that the majority of the aspects of the game will have the risk of pvp

this just sounds like instancing with extra steps.
