Keybinding feedback

ErikkardErikkard Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
I use my right hand on the keyboard, and tend to rebind everything. I'm also very perfectionist about optimizing my hotkeys. I like the keybinding screen (with the keyboard layout), but there's some impracticalities:

1. We should be able to rebind the Character screen (hotkey C). I think that's the only non-rebindable screen.
2. We should be able to bind all mouse keys (middle + thumb buttons).
3. When we rebind a key, it shouldn't move to the bottom (like this). Looks messy. The key order should be static.
4. When we rebind keys, this hotbar should update to reflect the new keys.

I second this notion. Every key should be able to be moved.

Additionally, when binding something like Ctrl + Q, Q is executed instead, meaning the modifiers don't work, if there is a non-modifier version of it bound already.

Another thing. I tried binding "Dodge" and "Grab" to 2 separate keys (they're both bound to Ctrl by default), and it turns out the actual dodge-action is connected to the "Grab" key. So when I bound "Dodge" to a different key, it didn't actually do anything.

Also onscreen prompts should change like when you rebind the interact key it shouldnt keep prompting E to interract.

There were many bugs with the keybinding settings in general i.e. Instead of Move left + Move Right there was 2 Move Rights etc...

The only way I was able to truly rebind my keys was to remove ALL the keys and start fresh with some guess work due to the description bugs.

I found that if you hit what you want to rebind twice it stuck.

I tried remapping my A and D keys to my arrow keys. But because both were described as "MoveRight", one would disappear, and the other wouldn't be binded to anything.

I would love to be able to use any key on my keyboard for key mapping, also would love to have a primary and alternate key bindings for each. (Part of my wish list)

I'm sure they have this planned / in the works, but yes, I also do this in every game I play and would really to be able to do so here asap.

I've seen margaret talk about this during testing and completely forgot to log a Bug for it.
I use a Logitech G502 mouse and was unable to keybind any buttons.

I could change what my mouse buttons do so I mapped 67890 to my mouse instead.

But it would be nice if the Keybinding window would recognize the Forward/Back/Fire/Top buttons.
I know some other people had this issue so there might eb another thread for it.

Anyway, keep up the good work team! <3

I need to use the arrow keys to go forward, back, left and right. So far I can't seem to get this to work. Is it just bugged or is there a work around?

I don't believe that they are allowing key binds to be changed in game yet but I expect it to be fully customizable in the future. I really hope so anyway.

You can change keys on a lot of stuff, just not the arrow keys and some mouse buttons.
  • One option might be to use a macro through a app like razer synapse. Ive had to do that in a few games due to arrow key bugs. You can rebind wasd to up arrow and etc. Not sure of any non razer applications to do this! Good luck and hope they can fix this issue asap for people who cant use wasd!

    Things I like:
    • Simplistic keybinding UI with easy to understand commands.
    • keyboard graphic that displays the keys instead of having a giant list of key commands.

    Things I think need improving:
    • Pressing the "remove button" on a key removes it entirely from the list instead of just removing the keybind from the command.
    • Currently no support for mouse buttons 4 or 5.
    • References hotkey commands that aren't usable by regular players. For example, selecting V as a hotkey brings up the message "V is being used by the binding, GM_AddItems".
    • Lack of chat commands in the keybinds UI (might need a separate page for this to fit it all in).
    • List order should stay static when rebinding keys.

Feel free to add your own likes/dislikes as well.

This is not 100% a key binding issue, but I think it might belong here:
I would be happy if the keys for tab and action combat mode were more similar in general. Q, Shift, and E feel a bit clunky to me as the default for tab mode. I don't have a perfect solution, but I will probably end up binding strafe and rotation onto one hand (my left) for my keyboard, and combat/interact onto my other (right) for my mouse.

As is, swapping from tab to action feels a bit disorienting, and I think players will probably just key-bind and stick with their preferred system rather than make use of a hybrid style.

It seems like there is actually no support for mouse buttons at all other than 1 and 2. MB3 appears to not work as well.

For info, I'm using a Razer Naga Trinity

Yes, I had to duplicate all the movement keys to my Razer Narga mouse. just can't do wasd movement and press all the action buttons at the same time lol. ... Yes Yes I'm old lol. Can't wait to have a full keybinding facility. Until then my character will lurch awkwardly from encounter to encounter like a drunken sloth.

    Yep 100%.
#2 especially is huge for a lot of players. Not being able to remap/keybind everything helps with comfort and intuition when playing. Extra UI/interface options are the biggest setback for me personally right now. Hopefully this can get added at some point soon.

    100% this.

Not being able to bind mouse buttons has been the biggest hit to my QoL while playing overall.

Keybinds: two rights don't make a left
So many things wrong with the movement keys' keybinds. Two MoveRight's, one MoveForward, and one backward masquerading as a MoveForward. Removed the extra MoveRight and it went away completely, losing the ability to move left at all.

We should be able to bind
    -Dodge to double tap WASD
-adjust timing on harvest resources... my tap seems to be too slow... it keeps trying to make me hold it
