It won't become pay to win and the cost to test AoC was well worth it so far. I have my complaints but for the most part the development team and creative direction listens to our feedback and actually makes changes that matter. I get that you dislike the idea of paying to test a game for a development company but those of us who bought it see it differently. We paid into the idea of helping so we could be a part of what we think will be one of the best mmos to have ever been made. This, to me, makes $500 too little.
Well, since my $500 got me 7 sweet cosmetic skins, a year's worth of prepaid subscription for when the game comes out, free access to it for months before it comes out, which would normally be $15 a month, and over $100 in ingame currency to buy even more sweet cosmetic skins with...

For example, I'd tell you that right now, we're just hunting bugs, and repeatedly replaying the same starter quests over and over every few days. This current test might let us play for a whole straight 96 hours maybe! Or not. Might be wiped to level 1 again somewhere in the middle if necessary.
If you want to feel what the game is like, don't even worry about it, wait until Beta. Or, as the Creative Director says, just do what you're already planning to do. Wait until release.
But don't come in implying other people are stupid when what you mean is 'I'm upset that you guys with more money get to do something I don't'.

Also, this is an alpha, created for gathering data on server stability etc. If you were to test it for free, there would be very little testing done, but with these tiers of testing behind a paywall, you actually get some data collected in the process, and players get some cosmetics back.
So... things you don´t like...just take a few breath´s and say something constructive instead about it.
Everyone can make a post mistake etc, but just remember it from this point, and you should be fine.

$500 to support game devs creating mechanics and features for MMORPGs I hope will be in use for the next 10 years is worth it. Especially if I get to play for free for 10+ years.
Otherwise, we're likely to be stuck with WoW clones for another couple of decades.
1) Don't spend money on a game in development, and expect it to be a finished product.
2) Don't join a game before it actually releases in a non Alpha/Beta state.
3) Don't complain about a game not being finished, when it's in early access, just because you don't understand what that actually means.
OP has a point.....unfortunately this how the gaming industry is now. Its driven by people like me that paid the $500 . I make a decent living but still it is a bit crazy. Id of never paid to test UO or Star Wars Galaxies or SWTOR back in the day. And those are 3 of the best "sandbox" online MMO's ever IMO ( though SWTOR isn't a sandbox). But these types of games are my kind of entertainment. Id easily spend $500 on a few dates and be a lot more disappointed.....ehhhh . I have friends that drop thousands of dollars each year to go to Disney World, to me that's freaking nuts . You couldn't pay me to go there. To each is own.

$500 to get access to limited content so I can grow a YouTube and Twitch channel. Plenty of people spend way more and get less growth from it.
