Patch download running very slowly

luthien1984luthien1984 Member, Alpha Two
Good morning,

I saw a couple of posts earlier about other people's game downloads freezing...so far mine hasn't frozen completely but it is running quite slow, averaging 1.1-1.6 MB/s, and sometimes lower than 1 MB/s. Is this normal? I checked my internet connection and there doesn't seem to be a bandwidth issue or bad connection on my end. Downloading the installer package yesterday took only a couple of minutes. I restored the launcher once this morning and Download Progress is at 22% & Applied Changes at 32% complete after running about an hour. I would attach a screenshot of the progress bars but my PC's web browser doesn't seem to want to connect to any sites as long as the Intrepid launcher is running ! (I'm writing this on a different device).

I've tried selecting an alternate server marked "low" from the drop-down menu but this doesn't seem to affect the download speed at all (I'm not sure it's supposed to). Any reason this would make a difference?

Basically any time I tried to play the game, I couldn't. I get 250 mbps minimum and it took over night to download the game because of how badly throttled it was. Then the next time I go to play, there's another update that took over an hour to finish. Then I finally get into the game and the create a character area is stuck on loading circle.

Close the game and restart it. Finally get to make a character. Click to enter game world, and it freezes for about 10 minutes. Close out the game again and try again, just to see the servers are on maintenance now.

Incredibly disappointed that I wasn't even able to try the game. Massive improvements need to be made to the launcher and initial character log in.

Yeah, smaller patch sizes would be great.

At the moment it looks like large chunks have to be downloaded again, even for some pretty small fixes.

    Hi there friends!

A few recommendations here to ensure you're seeing the best download speeds you can - make sure that you've whitelisted everything through your antivirus and firewall, and a wired vs. a wireless connection can improve things significantly! You may also want to check how your device compares to our recommended specs here.

If you still continue to see issues with the launcher that prevent you from playing, please feel free to reach out to our support team here so they can investigate further and troubleshoot with you!

Nope, those are game servers and not download servers, so the population on them would have no effect on your download speeds!

Right now the launcher checks through all your files again when it downloads a patch, just to make sure nothing's corrupted - so it's not downloading a lot of stuff again, it's just reviewing your existing files!

In general, please remember to share your feedback on the download/installation process in our main feedback thread for that here! I'm going to go ahead and close this thread out now, but please don't hesitate to reach back out if there's anything else we can help out with in the meantime <3
