I watched the most recent dev update and was listening to Steven talk about melee combat. I think you guys should check out NARAKA: bladepoint, it’s a new game coming out soon and I really enjoyed the melee combat in that game. It has some of that root combat movement you guys were mentioning but I feel like it does it in a very non restrictive way where you can still change your direction of your swings with moving your camera, also making each swing feel really impactful and heavy. I personally play a caster in every mmo I play, but that’s because the melee combat usually isn’t engaging and different to play. The melee combat in NARAKA was fantastic to me, and does it really when so I think that game could be a great reference point and you can use some inspiration from it for the direction you might want to take the melee combat in ashes. But of course what I think might be enjoyable for melee combat may not be for everyone, just wanted to see if this would be any help for you guys. 💙💙💙

I'm excited for the melee combat. I am looking forward to playing rogue and this freedom that Steven showed us to move without all that weight hindering my natural instincts to move will be nice. Although, I do not know the actual advantages, the feeling of being able to move helps increase MY personal feelings of having control. Great change IMO.
