    RNG progression is bad design.

The over enchant system is not really about a single person's progression. If you go into it with that mindset, you will have a bad time. At the high end, it gives guilds a way to strategically gear out their members situationally.

I can't speak for every guild in L2, but in my old guild, no one really owned their gear. It was a waste of resources and made no sense. Instead, you gave resources to the guild, and they provided you with loaner over enchanted gear that made sense for you to have depending on what you were doing.

The only time anyone wore anything that was super over enchanted was when they did the Olympiad or some roles in raids. Most of the time, people wore was cheap and effective for their level to mitigate risk of loss.

What was nice was that we had some really high over enchanted S-grade gear that we all had a hand in making. In this way, there was progression, but as a guild. We also all knew the progression was not forever, as the gear could be lost in battle.

Ashes is very much modeled after the way L2 worked in this way, and I expect many guilds will adopt these practices.

With the design for items to eventually permanently break, it really comes down to how much does one want to invest in over-enchanting and if it is worth it risking the loss of all those materials and time invested. Some people may gamble for a slight advantage but would also risk losing it all. It's an interesting system to spend resources and to keep those resources valuable for a while. But, if certain players end up really rich in the game, it could potentially back fire as they could have a storage full of + X enchanted gear for back up and for sale. There would probably be a point where it just doesn't make much sense to risk it anymore for over enchanting. But it also comes down to how accessible the materials for enchanting are readily available.
  • I say adopt rifts system, rng is a surefire way to ruin a game.

Mmos are and should be effort put in and reward given. Not rng. Rng destroys games and its not fun at all. Just take a look at eastern mmos. No wonder not a single one was ever succesful

Well this is just a factually incorrect statement.

The two games that Ashes is most heavily influenced by (Lineage 2 and Archeage) are both Korean - as is BDO, the game Ashes is likely to pull a good portion of it's population from.
