Beginner chat with beginner symbols (final Fantasy 14 online example) Suggestion !!!!!

I would suggest that you make it easier right from the start by introducing a system like the one in final fantasy 14 online.
why the whole thing will surely ask some?
But it's very simple, we just have different games, groups of people who are just starting out and people who play it longer and so you can tell people apart what is good when you do dungon, for example, and you have a new healer with you udn you know it too well that the tanks dan by rushing that can be very uncomfortable for the new player and so the other players know ah that is a new watch out slow hammer but it can also be different if a new player knows ah there If you are an experienced player, you can help new things in the game, what also makes final fantasy so successful is the system

here is a short summary of the ff14 online mentoring system

The mentoring system is designed to help new players get started with the game. Special functions are available to the mentors for this purpose.

- What are mentors?
Mentors are seasoned players who want to help new players. They take part in a chat channel specially set up for newbies, where they can answer questions and give tips.
In addition, they can use the content search to be assigned preferentially to groups that have not yet completed a content in order to provide help with advice and action.

- How do you become a mentor?
You become a mentor by attaining certain achievements, among other things, and then speaking to one of the teachers in the adventure guilds. Which achievements are different for warriors / magicians and collectors / craftsmen.

Conditions for warriors and mages:
・ Complete one job each for level 60 as defender, healer and attacker.
・ Successfully complete 1,000 instanced dungeon raids or trials.
・ Received 300 Most Valuable Player Awards.

Conditions for collectors and craftsmen:
・ Reach level 60 in a gathering job and a crafting job.
・ Create 100 collectibles using synthesis recipes.
・ Find or catch 300 collectibles.

- Newbie chat
Mentors automatically take part in the newcomers chat, which is reserved for mentors and newcomers *. In the newcomers chat, beginners can help each other or ask questions to a mentor.
* Players who have played less than 40 hours can choose the online status "Newbie".

- Random content: mentor
A separate category will be introduced in the content search for mentors. Via "Random content: Mentor", mentors can take part in randomly selected content that was previously not accessible as random content. The mentors are assigned to groups with longer waiting times.
* When making the selection, care is taken that groups do not consist exclusively of mentors.

Mentors who take part in such random content often enough receive special achievements with corresponding remuneration.
* The achievement rewards will be added in a later update.
* While participating in a random piece of content: Mentor, the online status is automatically changed to "Mentor".

that means as soon as you make yourself a new character you get a mark as a new player which only disappears if you have played more than 20 students so that people have had enough experience then you get a normal player mark

I'm curious how you all see it. I think it's one of the greatest systems out there and it shouldn't be missing here

You mean the fail system with "Burger King" crowns and sprouts that play better than them?

    No, thanks.

  • Actually, I was skeptical of this, until recently when I join FF14. The community was far from Toxic, though AoC is going to be a conflict driven game which will cause spats on a regular basis, there is nothing wrong with having a tag that says new, however that same tag with be used by those that love to greif even with the corruption Karma system in place. So if something like this was going to be used it should only show up in enviroments like instances or non pvp safe havens so the people that would be open to help others could.

    you're right.
But I also think of the players who don't watch guides or live streams and are new to the game, which sure wants to happen and this system has already turned out to be very good in some games

  • "Mentor program
There will be a mentorship program where upper-level players are able to benefit from partying and/or helping lower level players; and getting them situated in the game.[23]

Certain node buildings and organizations offer quests that can be initiated by a mentor to assist new players. Rewards are offered to both the mentor and the mentee upon completion.[27]
    Leading a mentee through a dungeon.[27]
    Meeting at pre-arranged locations.[27]
    Escort quests for NPC caravans.[27]
There will be activities that are present for higher level players to mentor lower level players. Let's say you have a friend who joins later on and you still want to do things with them, there will be things to do. Will he be able to enter a dungeon of your level and participate? No, because we don't want to inflate or deflate characters and manipulate that type of skill or power. We want that to be something that makes sense for them in a progression standpoint.[28] – Steven Sharif

The mentorship program provides individual quests that can be initiated by the mentor based off of what node that they are part of. So these are like quests that are determined by either certain buildings and/or organizations or the mayor; and there are specific ones that are available for mentors to provide mentees; and they can also participate in some of those quest lines as well: Whether that be leading your mentee through a dungeon or providing a location for them to arrive with you at, or escort quests for the NPC caravans. These types of things, when done together with your mentor, will provide benefits both for the mentor and the mentee as well, so you're incentivized to participate with new players.[27] – Steven Sharif

Pretty sure we are talking about the same thing.

It is a blight of a system that makes bad players start arguments more than is needed.

The mentor/sprout system puts players into separated "casts" and people do act accordingly. The in game system of having rewards is also bad because people who are not helpful feel compelled to "help" so they can get their completionist rewards.

It really is like Square is running the Stanford prison experiment in the game. The only people attracted to the mentor role are assholes and completionists, and anyone who logs into the game is labeled a "sprout"(prisoner) and forced to deal with the "mentors"(guards).

Mentors act like dicks to random all day. They get upset when they do their mentor roulette and get an extreme trial.

If you are really having trouble learning anything in FFXIV, there is a discord dedicated to every topic, These discords are full of people who actually help without needing rewards or "status" of any kind. They are just happy to have helped someone.

In my experience, Discord has been 1000% more useful than the mentor system.

In addition, I don't think a mentor system would be as helpful in Ashes because Ashes is an incredibly competitive game. The potential for abuse is high when anyone can "help" a new player by misguiding them in any number of ways to gain all sorts of advantages. It is a grifters dream to have a dedicated area full of inexperienced players.

Also, not that it matters much because Discord exists, but in game chat is intended to be regional after alpha. Having a noob/help chat would just make it the default global chat.

  • I am not a fan of singling out players as new for the fact that this invites exploitation and trolling towards first time players that can cause them to quit the game. I have ran into quite a few new players while playing the release of TBC Classic who have been lead around by "veteran" players into zones they shouldn't be in causing death/difficulty returning to the proper leveling path. They would also be given false information or just straight up tricked into working for the veteran player to farm resources disguised as "the best way to level up".

Now if they broadcast that they are new and looking for information they are willingly opening themselves up to such abuse rather than having that choice taken away from them with an icon floating over their heads.

I don't really have a good idea for what to do in order to help new players so ill leave it at that.
