Unpopular opinion? (Animations)
Idk about the rest of you, but the ethos behind the animations, to me, is… how should I say this… lacking substance, or a grounding and relatability.
The effects look great, but I think the ball is really being dropped here.
While mostly fluid, the animations lack any force or motion physics, or personality.
A punch for example can be weak, strong, balanced, or recklessness, and there isn’t any “feeling” conveyed behind the spell and ability animations.
I don’t want to rip on the animation team, but I feel like there’s no “feeling” or art behind the motion.
If it was me.. and it’s not obviously, I would prolong the animations, let the movements be different and have longer or shorter animation times for specific spells / actions / have different classes convey feeling behind movements.
A cleric goes through different training than a sorcerer, and while one might focus on casting with hand-signs, the other might focus on chanting.
I think this is an essential factor for games. Imagine for example if a dumb brute of an ogre attacked smoothly?
Maybe this post wont go anywhere, but I feel like since this is a game built for the mmo community, and I have the opportunity to say something that could improve the user experience of the game and allow players to have more of identity to choose when it comes to classes, i should.
When playing, I like to FEEL the character’s moves, imagine myself doing them, and there’s a huge disconnect for me here watching the videos now since they all just move, there’s no “motivation” as they say in acting… you can deliver a line “hey whats up” bored, inspired, excited, or sexual…. The same goes for motion.
As it stands, to me… the animations are sterile, without motivation.
Maybe something to consider.
