Focus group for character creator talked about in live stream.

I volunteer myself to be on that focus group. You will not find a more vain person than myself. It is literally my name.

I have spent an extensive amount of time exploring the character creator for every MMORPG I can get my hands on. I have documented most of those efforts in this thread:
https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/48710/was-board-ranked-mmorpg-character-creators-lets-talk-about-it/p1

Realistically, I expect the focus group to be internal. I just want to strongly encourage Intrepid to put out a stand-alone test character creator for Alpha supporters to start looking at and putting feed back on in the Alpha tester side of the forum.

I also would like to encourage the devs to consider an external focus group for this, made of players like myself and @Dygz whom I know are very passionate about character creators.

I want to volunteer for this too.

Not to make sure it is as detailed and easy to use ass possible, but to make sure there are fast enough presets to use so that players like myself can pass right through it in a few seconds.

If they are going to use something like the Meta Human Creator, presets are a must.

I think with UE5 using such a tool is on the table now. I know when I was playing with the raw creator I was really impressed with the tech, but it took a bit of learning to get used to it.

  • Just chiming in to back up your statement! I am certain that Intrepid won't leave it to the last minute to get feedback - perhaps they also intend to get the Character Creator ready for Alpha 2 which will be an opportunity to return TONS of feedback on a huge scale of content/features.

That said, with some NDA limitations I think it would be good to allow some community involvement to help better the game.

It's been a while since I played with it, so I loaded up the Meta Human Creator. I spent the better part of an hour playing with it just now. I got to say the presets they have are okay, but if you want a specific look there is a skill set that you need to be able to pull it off.

To the point that I could see people "Commissioning" others to make character save files based off of pictures of real people. It really is a powerful tool, but you can mess stuff up and make a real freak if you are not careful. If they do use the Meta Human Creator, I could see it taking me like 2-3 hours to dial a character in the way I want it. Which is a blessing for me and a curse for those like yourself.

Why would you pass through it in seconds when you're going to be able to create your character ahead of time?

Why would you pass through it in seconds when you're going to be able to create your character ahead of time?

Why would being able to do it in advance make any difference?

It is a process that I neither enjoy, nor see any purpose in personally.

I want to be able to pick one of maybe 20 presets, and then alter perhaps 1 or 2 things about them at the absolute most.

If you don't see a purpose in it, what do you want out of presets?

Sry I just assumed it was from the perspective of the dilemma on day 1 of spending time creating the character or being first in.

A reasonable assumption, as it is the case for some people.

However, there are a good many players that just don't care. I am playing the game looking at the back of my characters head, from as far away as the camera will allow. I don't see why I would care what shape that characters ears are, or how far apart their eyes are.

I would love to get involved just to break the system in any way I can so it can be fixed and prevent absolutely obscene abominations characters from being created.
