Pyreal, Lost Ark is an isometric top down ARPG, similar to diablo 3 style, so yes a comparison is difficult, however the graphics are gorgeous in my opinion and the gameplay is a lot of fun, with great mechanics, not really a cheap mobile game
I think that what Lost Ark can do well is giving you things to do, they really do have a decent amount of content, mind you it's been out for years but that's one of its biggest praise points.
Ashes has pretty good goals in terms of populating the world with things to do but it puts the reigns more in the player's hands.
Also aside from the localisation, the gameplay is honestly really fun with an enjoyable story (personal opinion) and the way they have used good directing to add depth to certain scenes i.e. the scenarios/dungeons is pretty well done.
I have watched videos from Korea/Russia and now some twitch streamers and yes it is a cheap asian mobile game.
I watched some reviews on it. It reminded me of Diablo with WoW quest markers. Lovely big gold exclamation marks above NPCs. I guess you can fight world bosses with 16 other LMB clickers?
It doesn't bother me that people enjoy this type of game but it looks boring to me. Just a time sink with RNG upgrading to encourage use of their heaps of P2W.
A game with P2W is an immediate downer, not too mention most of them are just shallow money makers for the devs/publishers. I don't feel they are designed to be a 'game', just a means of extracting money.
Some Devs have a passion for games and that is the driving force for their creations. Others simply want a product that facilitates income generation.
Economic realities can never been waved off but the motivating factor, the Vision/Mission of a studio, matters, and it shows in their game, or 'product', as in this case.
Likewise!
My first MMO was Asheron's Call. There wasn't really an endgame. As you leveled up you could move to other zones and kill the mobs there, people just 'played'. There was an overarching story line that everyone was involved in. Cinematics were very few and very far between.
You had to pay NPC Town Criers for hints about quests, and there was no quest tracker.
Just about all gear was loot. The 113% Yumi bow was the best in game. I enjoyed trading so I spent a wee bit of time farming mobs at Fort Tethana hoping one would drop. I remember when I got a 107% bow. Off to stash it on my mule!
The game also was almost full drop so there was always a market for armor/weps.
Uhhh yes I played Mario Party once, and I hope Ashes isn’t like Mario Party! This statement makes it relevant to these forums!
they compare to wow
It’s kind of genius, there are now 4 likes for the lower-case letter “a”.
What the heck, I’ll give another like. There’s 5 now.
