Early gameplay loop day 1 to 30 what should be available?

  • What do you think should be available to players after 30 days in relation to mechanics like tame, engage with religion, pvp arenas, build jewelry, fishing and etc?
  • I don't like the idea of having barriers to start testing a mechanic, but I want mechanics to complement each other in the middle and especially at the end game. The nodes will evolve and I don't want mechanics to be connected to nodes level 3+, I don't mean all is available only the basic. As auction are part of the economy ( metropolis )nodes, but you can sell your items in your freehold.
the example was weak but i think it works :wink:

    Ashes doesn't have an endgame.
Dev expectation is that people who play 4-6 hours per day will reach max level in 45 days.
Can we get even one Metro in 30 days???

This is a completely out of the blue statement, that has no relation at all to the OP - and is factually incorrect since endgame is any part of an MMO in which experience is no longer the main avenue of progression.

To the OP, there will be basic gathering, processing and crafting available without the need for nodes to progress. Unsure about religion, and PvP arenas will be a very small part of this game so don't care.

With the vast majority of content being locked behind node development it will be hard to say and vary server to server.
How will the player base congregate? Will they spread out or all stay in one place?

I personally am looking forward to how the world changes based off of how and where the player base plays and explores the world. I think a lot of the social organizations will have a presence in the first couple of weeks but we won't see the vast majority of what can be till closer to 6 months in
Most people never listen. They are just waiting on you to quit making noise so they can.

interesting, but I think that will be encouraged but most of the time you will be interacting alone (I think), and I want to know which mechanics do you think you will like the most?

I agree, I'm sure when the game launches there will be enough content creator interacting with these mechanics.
maybe something I don't expect to do will become cool

@Dygz The last stated intention for the progression to metro was "several weeks to months" if I remember correctly. Since then we have had some clarification on some node mechanics that tend to support it being a longer process vs a shorter. Even level 3 nodes are meant to be around a month of time before advancing. Of course there will be the inevitable chorus of "Intrepid can't tell me what to do! I will do it in a day!" types here. The initial government election for a T3 node takes one week. And the 3 weeks after that they have siege declaration immunity, for a whole month where they can't be messed with. When asked what would happen if the node was to pop to 4 during that time, would the immunity continue, the answer was yes, but they didn't see that happening very often. Implying that the process of 3 to 4 will be much more drawn out.

So I'm not quite sure you understand the concepts of player agency, dynamic world, and emergent gameplay.

There is content that is not available until a Node is Stage 3, precisely because that content is tied to a Stage 3 Node.

There is content that is unique to each type of Node (Scientific, Divine, Military, Economic) so there will be one server that gets access to some things before other servers.

There is content that is restricted to Stage 4 (Apartments). This is also restricted behind the Mayor's choice to build Apartments above and beyond the allotment of 50 that comes with a Stage 3 Node. This is Player Agency.

Not every server will have access to ever every piece of content at the same time or through the same path. Every server will be able to craft legendary gear, but a server with a Stage 6 Scientific Metropolis will able to do it much easier.

So yes barriers to content exist. That is by design and it should be there. Barriers drive player choice. You get this or you get that, but you cannot have both.

    ...
  • Hi OP! I'm relatively new here and still on a steep learning curve when it comes to Ashes. I think it is pretty difficult for anyone to say what a server will be like after 30 days. If I were more knowledgeable I could make some educated guesses but those would depend on statements like "if x happens, then y may happen".

I am looking forward to finding out how things will go on the server I choose. I am hoping for a scientific or religious node to join and see how that goes. In terms of individual progression on crafting, religion and other things like that... I have no clue. But I think it is going to be very interesting to watch as things develop. I think it's going to be great to have a game that takes more than a week or so to unfold.

I would love to give a better solid answer of what to expect but there are far to many variables involved.
With there being a 103 Nodes all starting at level 0 at launch no way to predict what the population will do and where they will go. Then based on the Node type and the various Races having an effect on quest lines and building types. Plus at level 3 when mayors get elected and what they build or don't build will also change what quests and amenities there are in various towns. This will all vary server to server which I think is part of the draw here. What happens on one server may never be seen on another. In one of the stream they talked about how the different type of dominate Node type will effect what spawns there are in the dungeons which then effects drops.
This will all be exciting to see how it plays out.
This might help you get a better feel for how the world might evolve.

I had never seen it from that angle, you managed to clarify a lot thanks now I understand
