A New Freehold Building Idea: The Storage Shed

horendishorendis Member, Intrepid Pack, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
A house can take up a lot of space. How about making a Storage Shed the size of the Water Well? You could place a Storage Chest and a Workbench in it. This would give more room on the Freehold for Gathering/Processing/Crafting and Other Buildings. If you are not a house decorator, this could be a great option! (Heck, maybe even make a shelf for our Pax/Covid Trophies!) @MargaretKrohn @StevenSharif

It's hard to say how much space we'll have yet, surely? There might be more than enough already.

Might even be like Eve Online, where (if I remember correctly) station storage was infinite, and your only limitation was how much you could personally carry between the stations.

If there are finished items in the shed, and your freehold is destroyed as part of a siege are those items lootable?

The intent behind the limitations on the crafting system is to promote interaction between players. Any freehold building created as a workaround to those intended mechanics of keeping a single person unable to master all crafts or have more crafting station availability on their freehold are not going to happen.

My thinking is... if all I need is a storage chest and a crafting table, then why waste the space with an entire house when I could add another field of crops or a pond for second species of fish in place of the house. When the node levels up and I can expand my current buildings, then I might want to place a stables or something else. I stand there staring at the house that I never use and think, man, if I only had that section to put to good use.

So, get an Apartment in the city to store your stuff. Keep everything there. Then, use your Freehold space for your farming.

I don't know that would work @daveywavey , because you can only have one dwelling in a node, either an apartment/house OR a freehold. Since you can only be a citizen of one node, you could not have a freehold in one node and an apartment in another. If I understand this wrong, please correct me.

I know apartments will be able to be bought and sold, but I doubt that would end up being an end-around to the one 'property per citizenship' rule.

I could be wrong but i don't think you are restricted to having one type of housing per character. It sounds like you could have one of each so you could have a in-node house and freehold. I don't see any talk of requirements for the freehold cert so you might need to be a citizen to buy it which means you would need to have bought a house or apartment.

I believe that @mcstackerson is correct and my assertion in the post above his is in error, which means that @daveywavey has a workable plan.

Static housing and apartments are each one per character per server. These forms of housing allow citizenship to a node, but do not require it. You can only be citizen of one node at a time.

    Freeholds are one per account.

A player may own up to one of each type of housing simultaneously.

That is way it has been explained. You need to own property in a node to become a citizen, you do not need to be a citizen to own property. The permission to place a freehold can be purchased at the town hall in any T3 node settlement and above.

I could not see a decent recent thread on this, so reviving this discussion so that the topic can remain isolated from the freehold / housing debate.

My understanding, (and happy to be corrected), storage is limited to housing and/or freeholds and transportation (mules or similar).

There are no safe zones except in your own home or freehold, so what you are holding until you have a house or freehold will be vulnerable.

With housing quantity limited by stage (unknown if the ratios will be related to the likely node citizens or not ) and freehold will be harder to obtain, what are the likely workarounds to place your wares in safe storage for those that want to accumulate materials and/or gear while a node is in development, working up your wealth and/or moving to a new node?

What’s the difference between a storage shed and a chest? Both would theoretically have the same Freehold permissions for security & access.

Is it just to make it more explicit…?

It sounds like a freehold MUST have a house built first, then you can begin building other buildings.

There are warehouses and banks in nodes. Banking becomes available at node level 1.
