How about having an event like Funland from Revelation Online?

In revelation online MMORPG, there is an event called Funland. It opens twice a week, in which you enter a chutes and ladders-type instance.
The map is divided to many cells/platforms and you roll a dice to advance to each platform. Upon entering any platform, you have the option to play a mini-game. Upon success, your chest reward at the end of the map will contain better rewards. Sometimes the platforms themselves give you special rewards.
And the rewards from this event are really good, comparable to better-than-average gear, enough to enter normal dungeons and etc.

It is the best fun game event I have seen in any MMO. Would be nice to see something like this in AoC. What do you think?

  • I am an advocate of fun! I do think that anything that can be an open world - engage-able event should be where able, would be my preference. Something that can be acknowledged by passers by!

I am not familiar with this actual event (or game for that matter) - but perhaps it could be incorporated with our parlour game system? We know it will have gambling of sorts and engageable by players. So scaling this up to some sort of event could be a fun idea!

I just had a thought. I would love in-game battleships parlor game! Super easy to put in the game. We have a Naval system so can also be thematical with the Ships that exist in the game. Do we go deeper? Ranked play? MMR system!? I would be fine with just playing for coin I guess...

I am all for having multiple things to do as long as it doesn't take people out of the open world.

One of the things I fear with this is a repeat of what Wildstar did with it's many "challenges" in the open world. Nothing worse then leaving one to go 10 meters and have "Challenge accepted" announced or flashed on the screen with a timer and trying to figure out WTF am I doing now. Figure it out , finish , go 10 meters and do it again. Eventually I stopped even paying attention.
Most people never listen. They are just waiting on you to quit making noise so they can.

So, would this be a Parlour Game in a Tavern, or what? Not sure where it'd fit in to Ashes.
