Direction for the base model is looking great to me :) I personally don't have any suggestions on changes other than the undies seem a bit hiked up and look weird to me lmao

Haha, yeah. Surprisingly for me, I hadn't really noticed until you pointed it out. I wonder if they'll be selling underwear cosmetics in the cosmetic store! :D

I hope so, the current ones are blasphemously ugly. I hope we dont have a chance to see it often, but still if noobs are going to be running around or dancing naked no matter what can we at least get a touch of color and a texture less like a wet burlap sack for options? Even just dyeing it would be nice.

The Kaelar are European, the Vaelune are Middle-Eastern. That has been the published plan since Kickstarter.

Keep in mind, it’s not only the physical features being influenced by real life cultures. They will also influence clothes, armor, weapons, gear, and architecture.

The Ren’Kai are supposed to have an Asian influence (though the latest concept art have seemingly abandoned that tact). The Py’Rai are supposed to have Native American influence.
    Actually, it's the reverse.
Kaelar cultural aesthetics are influenced by real life European clothes, armor, weapons, gear and architecture.
That should not have to mean that the Kaelar skin tones and facial features are restricted to European skin tones and facial features.

We also knew what Vek and Py'Rai were intended to look like since Kickstarter.
They have significantly changed those appearances.
And they are asking for feedback for what we would like to see for the Kaelar.
    I shared my feedback.
The devs can and will decide if they want to make adjustments based on my feedback... or not.
That's what this topic is for.
What I like does not have to be what you like.

I am glad they aren’t going for your idea of homogeny. That would be lame. Your suggestion is to remove any distinctiveness from the human races in the game, aside from “magical features”, which would make them no longer human.
Sounds to me like you confuse diversity with homogeny.
Your reflection of what you think I said doesn't match what I actually said.
But, I wasn't talking to you in the first place, so that don't matter.
    I said what I said.
The devs will read it and then do what they do.

The human model does look good from a technical standpoint, but I do think it is important to let gamers create the beautiful men, women or race they want to see. I know that the range of that is extensive, but we all know what someone generally means when they say attractive. I leave that up to your imagination.

Creeps like you have gotten way too bold about their porn habits

Intrepid so far has made all of their modes fit and attractive. No, there should not be bimbo proportions from body sliders. No, not even to be funny or for “creativity”. Ashes isn’t here to be your wank fodder

This may sound shallow, but this is real world and I'm just being honest.

When you look at other games, especially those outside of the US. They are not afraid to make sexy male and female models. While I know this is not like those games and Ashes has its own direction its going... lets be honest with ourselves and understand that these games do extremely well and have player retention in large part because we as humans generally like attractive character models just like we like attractive partners in life. In addition to this, these games provide a plethora of cosmetics and such to emphasize this. This is in our DNA.

With that said, I do hope that the character customization allows for such models to include the "sliders" that I'm willing to guarantee most customers want. Please don't be afraid to allow for attractive character customization or unattractive for that matter if its what the player wants to create. Honestly when a customer can create a character they feel meets a criteria of their liking, they are happy, happy = a good game and retention. A game needs to accomplish this. Lets not get PC with this to a point its ridiculous given some of the recent events with other companies. Same goes for all the other races in their respective ways and art styles. Its called a character creator, because we want freedom to create.

    Um. It’s not mutually exclusive.
They already have Kaelar with European features and I suggested to also include some Kaelar with non-European features.

I did propose for all Kaelar to have non-European features.
  • Overall I think the design is okay, I like the artstyle direction it's taking though it's not as good as the male model imo.

    The main issues I see:

•The asymetrical pupils give off an unnatural and offbeat look. If you intended to give the model asymmetry around the eyes(which I support), it should've been done to either the size on one of the upper eye-lids or the sclera show as that's quite common in the real world.

•The overly red pigmentation around(coupled with the asymmetrical pupils) is what makes the model appear high imo. You should probably rid of said red pigmentation.

•Just like the human male and some other races, the eyebrow doesn't look like seperate hair strands emerging from the hair follicles and more like its been glued there.

•My last point is that the face looks a bit too compacted, as in like all the facial features are squeezed in together in the middle. Though compared to the other points are listed this isn't much of an issue, as I'm guessing we can change this in the character creator.

I really like the improvements made here since Alpha 1, but she looks to be suffering from seasonal allergies. As long as it's optional I'm okay with that- I wouldn't mind making a bard that looks perpetually sad.

While I assume I'll normally be wearing armor, the bottoms look very distorted and painted on. Relax that fit a little bit, especially on the backside.

While I disagree with your opinion on this, I agree this “woke” talk is intentionally incendiary. I don’t see you pushing a political agenda. You just want other options.

If I was to play a basic human over the other races (Which I wouldn't)
I'd be quite happy with them.
    She looks stoned. Not complaining.

What do you like about the current art direction of this race? Is there anything you dislike about the art direction for this race, and why?
I think the Kaelar female model looks like a great thematic match to the male, and as I mentioned in the other thread, I think that direction is good. My only dislike is that both Kaelar examples are very White European looking in origin. As the non-human races are revealed to look very non-human (and amazing) I would want a large variety in appearance from both Kaelar and Vaelune.

What are your thoughts on what was shown during the livestream for the Kaelar female?
I continue to be impressed with the hard work everyone at IS is putting in to make these UE5 models look awesome. Thanks for all the hard work!

Are there any specific Character Creator customizations you would like to see for the Kaelar female?
A solid variety of hair options for all hair textures.

Looks really good. Obviously hard to judge off one model, especially with no wild design choices. Rather than judging the human races off of one or two models, we will have to judge based off of the many that come out over the months. One thing I would like to see is different body shapes/types/sizes, and even amputated limbs. If you guys aren't planning on showing the character creator next month, maybe show some of the things that are possible with it.

I think she looks gorgeous. but please take care that you allow humans to represent a wider rangeof ethnicties. But don't shoehorn all human ethnicties in both human races. I suggest:

    Kael: European or Asian faces
    Vaelun: Arabic, African faces.

It's not about a fantasy book we read as an outsider, but a game we play as insiders. And as Asmongold always says many ppl like to play gorified versions of themselves. you want to look like you really do, just more awesome.

    Great job guys!!

The red around her eyes makes it look like she might be unwell but Szaas humorously showed another possibility! The hair looks great. The model looks great. Any chance of baselining more of a 20 something look for faces instead of teens?

    Looking good.
I just worry about the cartoon vs realism art styles of the other races.
Please pick one and stick with it.

I would also add that a cartoon style MMO is not personally for me, and not what I expected.
I dont see how cartoon characters can fit in a hyper realistic environment, unless those characters are also hyper realistic.....even if unusual/unique.

I'm happy just as long as you don't make the human females dumpy and ugly like WoW did lol. I mean, sure there are some of us that actually ARE dumpy and ugly, but there are plenty that are stunningly beautiful as well. Your model works fine, but the mouth seems a bit small / pinched. As long as there are sliders to fix that, then thumbs-up.

  • Overall, it's a perfectly fine human. I have to say though, what is up with her eyes? The male human had a weird glassy/red look in his eyes as well.

My biggest request for ALL of the races is that we get some long hair. I'm sure its a nightmare to design, texturize, and give natural movement in game but it would be great if we could do it. What if my character (male or female) doesn't want one of the 30 variations of a bob or a-line cut that we always see? What if my character doesn't want their hair in a short unkempt sloppy bun?

As always, the Intrepid art team is legendary tier good. As a base, I think this along with the male Kaelar are off to a great start. Looking forward to seeing updates in regards to war paint/tattoos, scars, piercings, and other accented customizations. Knowing Intrepid, it's likely that even the "basic fantasy humans" will be getting some unique flare to really define them as their own culture. Braids, undercuts, facial hair for the males, maybe viking style eyeliner for the females, so many possibilities moving forward. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with! :)

Triying not to say what has been said too much, I would say that she loos very strong.
Will be possible ot make her skinny or fatty shorter or taller? I mean I love that you can have a strong, even stronger woman if she is a warrior but maybe a mage should have other constitution.
  • AmmaAmma Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
Face looks good in my opinion.

I understand the problems of making long hair interacting with helmets and armor, but i really hope that there will be options for very long hair... down to the waist or so. The hair itself looks really well done.

Its funnny to see how you put these brown overlays over her body, so its not "too nacked" for the live presentation while we still can see the original smaller underwear beneath that. I wonder if that funny brown overlay is your plan for the final game or if you can go back to the normal one beneath that.

Skin texture and reflection looks very good, very authentic.

I hope the connecting lines between the body parts at the hips and under the throat will be less visible in the future, but thats not very important i guess, because the armor will hide that most of the time.

I think we will only be able to really decide what we like and what we miss, when we see the options in the character creation menu. So lets wait and see.

What do you like about the current art direction of this race?

Looks perfectly bland and generic as it should be.

Is there anything you dislike about the art direction for this race, and why?

Could use some small features to distinguish themselves from Vaelune. Skin color/hair color is not a reasonable option in my book. Height ranges are a good step, but I think the facial features might need to be a bit more differentiated between the two. I am fairly 'against' having multiple human 'races', but since that is where we are at artificial limitations on face shape and height is probably the most problem free way to go about it. Maybe give them slightly 'giant-bloodline' skewed proportions possible?

What are your thoughts on what was shown during the livestream for the Kaelar female?

Completely unremarkable. Good job I guess?

Are there any specific Character Creator customizations you would like to see for the Kaelar female?

The more I think about it, the more I think having a large range of body hair options on the male and female Kaelar might be a good idea. No other race fits 'Sasquatch' levels of hair. Elves are always pretty smooth. Orcs are also not usually the level of hairy I am thinking of and we are going with dragon/goblin tilted orcs in this game which are definitely not hairy. Dunir will be kinda hairy, but they will also be too short to fit the 'towering hairy beast' type person and polynesians are not necessarily known for a lot of body hair. So that leaves us with Kaelar and Vaelune. Kaelar definitely fit this better and are taller.

So while this won't get used a lot on the female Kaelar, having 'lots of body hair' on the male and female Kaelar possible is definitely a good additional feature to add to help distinguish the two a bit. It doesn't help with the silhouette but it's still 'yet another small detail.' Maybe give Kaelar bushier eyebrows as a whole. If you want 'thin, not hairy demure short female human' just play Vaelune. If you want them taller, just tone it down and make the body hair blonde I guess? Since skin color wouldn't be a trade off in my model that'd be pretty acceptable to all parties right? Just things to think about. I expect this opinion to be pretty unpopular even if it's a good idea.

The shoulders look a bit broad at a glance (but I'm no artist). As others have pointed out, the redness around her eyes may not be the move. I think it makes her look ill.

  • I like this human model. Maybe tone down the red around the eyes, but overall this is a good human model. I hate the underwear though, ugh, granny panties.

Height slider. May I roleplay as a 130cm tall little girl witch, please?

(Archeage's dwarves are 106cm tall, FFXIV's Lalafells are 97cm - Not asking for anything this crazy)

    Thank you ♥

The females in this game looks awesome. They have the feminine body while looking natural and strong. I've had a lot of issues in many MMOs were the female characters looks too puny. What else to say, I am a fan! :)
  • I'd like to see a selection of achievable builds. The single model shown looks good, but we humans come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Pick a handful of extremes and ask for feedback on whether they are each believable within a fantasy remit.

I mean, I hope this isn't just a Kaelar feature haha. Nikua definitely will need some rotund and scrawny variety as well as many other of the races.
