Question about Autorun/Autopath between Nodes

AzheraeAzherae Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
I'm trying to figure out if I misunderstood something from the last stream (but if Community Managers can grab a more specific answer, I'd obviously appreciate that too).

Steven said something that implied that there might be autopathing between two Nodes, but with the 'restriction' that you can't autopath from 'A to C' if there is a 'B' in the middle.

I'm fairly sure he must have been referring to auto-pathing, because why even mention it otherwise, but I'm not absolutely clear on it, so I want to know if anyone else understood that segment differently than I did.

The other part that wasn't clear, was if this was something you could use from 'a position on the road between Nodes'. I don't know if this should be in the Support and FAQ forum but it doesn't seem so, if it should be, please move it.

Have you got a timestamp for it?

    This was from awhile ago:

There is not going to be any "go to waypoint" (auto-pathing) mechanics.[4]

I would also be interested if something has changed since. Hopefully not.

I think people get confused with "no fast travel". There will be "faster" travel in Ashes. The last info I have is that nodes will have the option to build a stable/carriage house.(and of course the airship or teleporters for metros depending on type) You can then select to travel to another node that has a stable. The A to B to C thing comes from you being able to start your journey to C from A with a stopover in B. They still have to give details on how carriage/transport will work. Whether it will be open to attack and such. People getting ganked for being afk while they are on an autoroute they paid for will not be popular. And finally, if you are talking about the autopathing that is prevalent in mainly eastern mmos, that is not a thing planned. Where you just hit a button and it runs you to the objective or quest turn in.

@unknownsystemerror I read in "faster travel" in AoC wiki that some flight paths would be present.

"Flight paths via flying automated creatures that link nodes within a specific region."

You have any info regarding this? Like how limited would this be or the conditions for this to be present.

yep steven mentioned it and it dos mean you can autopath between 2 nodes however it does only work if between is not another node

tecnicly if you want from west to east from node a to node c and there is node b inbetween you can only autopath from a to b and then need to restart autopath from b to c.

    hope it answers your question.

the other methodes mentioned by unknownsystemerror are on sientific metropole nodes that activates teleport within its area of influence (not shure if in both directions)

the other is a Airship transport between 2 sientific metropole nodes
(but since there will be only 5 metropole nodes in total it will be rare to have that option

It is from the latest Feb Dev Update.

I also heard this part and would like clarification. I was under the impression that the only auto travel was the airships if unlock via nodes

    Thanks.

My take on it is the same as unknownsystemerror's above.

I would be willing to bet that nodes are able to build a building (a stable or similar - though not the same as the stable to be found on freeholds), and players can basically just rock up to it, select a nearby node, and -their mount auto-paths them to that node.

Not a system I am overly keen on, but that was my take on it.

The fact that Steven said it was something being worked on now means you perhaps shouldn't expect to find a whole lot of existing information on it.

Now I'm wondering most whether or not this is going to result in Ferry links between nodes, since that raises all kinds of questions.

When are two coastal nodes considered 'adjacent' enough for this (assuming it even happens), etc.

Guess someone will have to ask this month, I figure this aspect of it probably has an answer. It might involve having a mount or a boat, it might not.

I would be surprised if there were ferry links using this system.

My take on how they are picturing it working is that you are riding your mount, you just have a system to automate it's movement. Adding a ferry on to that seems to be more in line with the player run carriage system that they plan on having, rather than the mount system this seems to be talking about.

That said, I don't see room in a game for both systems. While they do each have their own function and place, the place for a player run transportation system is too small to be viable if there is an automatic travel system between nodes.

Perhaps a better way to look at what was being said on the live stream is that Intrepid are looking at various things in terms of transport between nodes, and nothing is set in place as yet.

While we can always use the not set in stone argument, we did get this one answered. There were various "ferry" points between the land masses in A1. These were added since swimming or riding the distance was seen by Intrepid to be too onerous for the bulk of testing and there was no naval content available in A1. (I am talking about the later open A1, not the earlier ones where we had access to flying mounts for everyone.) They were obviously placeholder and were not planned out for placement all that well. (Everyone remember Death Otter Beach loading in.) When asked during one of the content creator streams, (can't remember who it was) Steven was asked if the "ferry teleporters" would be a thing and he answered that they were only for testing and would not be making the jump to later iterations.
