Opaque vs See-Through Windows: Where Should Our Expectations Be?

A lot of online games seem to heavily favor the opaque/decorative windows, over the see-through/transparent windows. I guess this might save on some kind of rendering or animation metric, perhaps?
Am personally good with windows either way. It just seems that the majority of windows I've seen in AoC updates/Apoc/Alpha 1 footage would indicate we'll largely be seeing 1-sided, non-transparent windows.
Is there genuinely a benefit to having "solid" walls/windows in a 3D gamescape?
Is there a code/performance issue that comes up from having see-through windows everywhere?

Situations where building interiors are their own cell can't use translucent windows, as there is nothing outside to see. When the building is not its own cell, there used to be an advantage in lighting to having opaque windows, but I assume that has been rendered negligibleby now.
