For example, a Town Node that is relatively close to a Village, close enough for the travel between them to be short, would then have a very strange incentive to destroy the Village Node so that they could gather more resources in the Wilderness.
In this scenario, that village node would be a vassal of the town node. The town node would be relying on that village node for experience in order to assist in maintaining the town node.

As such, it is in that town nodes best interest to ensure the survivability of that village node - especially if that town node has plans to continue to grow - you can not level up a high level node in Ashes without solid vassal nodes.

Personally I'm hoping that Ashes keeps lower tier zones very relevant and desirable.

In a game like Ashes, it doesn't make much sense to me that a higher tier Node simply equates to a higher level content zone you'd expect to see from a themepark MMO. The entire map is interconnected.

If anything, I'd love to see the reverse be true - that higher tier Nodes have conquered their area and provide all the safety and conveniences that civilization offers, while the lower tier Nodes are still wilderness and thus house the most abundant resources and dangerous creatures.

Reality is many players do not want to work for anything. They want to walk into something fully established with little effort. So the well established nodes will be most attractive to players... a level 1 node will not be... A guild with 500 players will be more attractive then a Guild that has 6 players and is building. THE KEY WILL BE HAVING MEMBERSHIP CAPS TO THE NODES. If they have a citizenship cap then most nodes will be just fine

Can't be citizens of Stage 1 Nodes.
    Citizenship begins at Stage 3.

Higher Level Nodes attract higher level mobs. Better loot to be gained.
